    First Horror Hostess

From all accounts, Maila Nurmi's the Vampira show, was unique and before her time for the 1950's. It is a tragedy that all but a few snippits of promotional footage is saved from this important yet mostly forgotten show. She was truly before her time, now being left in the shadows of those whom rose to stardom after her.

    • Trivia
After huge success at KABC-TV (Channel 7 in the Los Angeles area) Maila Nurmi a.k.a. Vampira had a falling out with producer Hunt Stromburg over the rights to the character she created. He wanted rights, but she was unwilling to give them up, which let to her leaving the station in 1955. In 1956 she moved the show to one of KABC-TV's rival stations KHJ (Channel 9), renaming it VAMPIRA RETURNS.
