Interesting cinematography, pretty good movie
The cinematography in this movie is really interesting. The colors, the rural setting, the time period, and the overall "feel" is unique and pristine. It adds a strange melancholy and simplicity to the movie.
I liked Mia Goth's character, Pearl. She was quirky and cute. It seems like she had quite the dysfunctional family. Her mother was rather mean to her. She was isolated on the farm. It's no wonder she had some issues. We can somewhat sympathize with her.
That being said, there seems to be hints of other movies, including Psycho(1960,) in this. I'm not sure it took anything away though. It was still good.
Overall, some might find it boring and slow, but if you're a horror movie fan, including slashers, you might like this. It has some dark comedy in a couple parts, but maintains a creepy vibe throughout.
