Sweet, cozy and a good watch for the whole family

An Vrombaut's first major project on his own is a very sweet and nice little series consisting of bedtime stories. The idea is simple and - as is often the case with children's series - all the more effective because of it; it is well thought out in any case. The adventures a little girl has with her friends from the zoo are a nice and simple story with an educational factor. This one doesn't come up short, but it also doesn't overtake the whole series in an unpleasant and fun way. The voice acting is more than solid and the art design sketchy yet quite clear and distinct, sweet it certainly is.

Vrombaut hasn't created a masterpiece here, but an undeniably good series for kids who want to be tucked into bed at night. Alternating this series every now and then with reading a children's book aloud should bring joy to the whole family in meaningful activity. It's nice when children are taught something without propaganda and have the chance to learn. Vrombaut's idea is, contrary to many a terribly religious children's series, simply fundamentally democratic.

    The perfect bedtime stories

10 years since I reached the age where I stopped watching this show, and hardly a week goes by when either myself or one of my friends doesn't reference it. Each short story is animated in a wonderfully story-book style, and the whole concept is generally very sweet. Obviously I cannot recommend this to the adults who may read this review, however I genuinely believe it is a brilliant show for its intended audience. The simple plot lines make it easy to follow, and the new animals make it rather educational for very young children.

Tales Before Bedtime: 64 Zoo Lane's Gentle Whimsy Earns a Nostalgic 6/10

Growing up with Noggin, 64 Zoo Lane was one of those shows that quietly nestled into my bedtime routine. It wasn't flashy or fast-paced-it was soft-spoken, sweet, and just quirky enough to stick in my memory. I remember curling up and listening to Lucy's animal friends tell stories that were simple, sometimes silly, and always wrapped in a gentle moral.

The show's strength lies in its tone. It's calm and comforting, with narration that feels like a lullaby and animation that's colorful without being overstimulating. The character designs-like Nelson the Elephant or Georgina the Giraffe-were charming in their simplicity, and each episode felt like a mini fable. For a young viewer, it was easy to follow and easy to love.

That said, revisiting it now, I'd give it a 6/10. The storytelling is pleasant but repetitive, and the pacing can feel slow even for a preschool audience. It doesn't have the layered humor or emotional depth of some other children's shows, and the animation, while endearing, lacks polish. Still, there's something special about its quiet confidence-like it knew exactly what kind of comfort it wanted to offer.

For me, 64 Zoo Lane wasn't just a show-it was a soft landing at the end of the day. And while it may not hold up as a standout in children's television, it earns its place in my personal nostalgia vault.
