Nowhere near as good as 1883 or yellowstone .
Despite a superb cast the writing in this is lazy and the storyline flimsy at best. Helen Mirren Harrison Ford and the other leads play their roles well but are given little to work with and the story barely meanders. We watched the glorious 1883 prequel last week and expected the same level of intensity, quality and pure cinematic joy of this (despite the sorrowful parts). However 1923 has been sexually gratuitous regularly at best and we ended up playing count the nip by episode 3. It seemed that everytime they couldn't figure out how to tell part of the story someone was naked and and it became a genuine and surprising disappointment. Neither of us are prudes but when that's the only thing they can think of to fit into 5 minutes an episode instead of decent story arc dialogue or something to move the history of the ranch towards its more current state we honestly almost gave up hope. A couple of terrible accents by relative newcomers and moments of shouting "SERIOUSLY????" at the screen and I'm not sure we will bother with series 2. We may try thr first 1st episode but truthfully if this is what 160 million gets them, they've been swindled. 1883 had so much depth and heart even in its brutal moments it puts this to shame. As does the acting and effort put in by the first series cast. It makes this look empty and truly sad. We gave it its all 8 episodes but with no conclusion at any point only open ended half arsed stories , none really fully connected it was an absolute let down. Watch it if you wish bit don't expect to be satisfied or enthralled. I hope they use their screen time better next time.
