"You're a credit to your rice!"
Well, for starters the panel included Floyd Patterson, Rocky Graziano, Gene Kelly and Orson Welles. Wow! Find a YouTube clip of Red Buttons from this roast. His "other black people who never got a dinner" is hilarious! Bill Crystal was also memorable.
Dean Martin Roast: Muhammad Ali
The Dean Martin Celebrity Roast: Muhammad Ali (1976)
Muhammad Ali is the celebrity guest in this Dean Martin special. Of all the roasts that I've seen up to this point there's no doubt that this one here contains the last amount of laughs and I'm going to guess it's because there wasn't much to say. I mean, the majority of the jokes are aimed at a few loses Ali suffered and that's it. Red Buttons, Wilt Chamberlain, Howard Cosell, Rocky Graziano, Gene Kelly, Tony Orlando, Nipsey Russell, Freddie Prinze, Floyd Patterson, Sherman Hemsley, Ruth Buzzi and Orson Welles are among those throwing the jokes. Overall there are a couple nice laughs but there's really nothing hilarious. Foster Brooks does the best job as a former boxer who Ali "refused to fight." Buttons does a nice job and Russell is also very good.
