Pretty Rosebud

Pretty Rosebud is a very interesting relationship drama about Cissy and Phil whose marriage is on the rocks. Phil has been unemployed for a long time and is seemingly depressed and unaffectionate with his wife Cissy, which leads her to seek that attention and affection outside their marriage.

Many relationship dramas have been done before, but Pretty Rosebud has unique extra layers in the form of added pressure both culturally and religiously to remain faithful, build a family, etc. Chuti Tiu gives a great performance in the lead role as Cissy and perhaps it is no surprise that she connected so well with the material since she is also the film's screenwriter. Pretty Rosebud had me interested the whole way through and I was very eager to find out what would end up happening to Cissy. If you're looking for a high quality indie drama, I'd highly recommend Pretty Rosebud! 10/10!

I applaud the filmmaking team in taking a risk in making this film and... wow did it work. Great reversal from what I would term... a well worn storyline of predictability. Terrific acting by the lead actress. She was outstanding! I also enjoyed how this film was directed. It moved at a very good pace. You could really feel "Cissy's" internal conflict and what she was going through struggling with morals, cultural traditions and her wants. Certainly worth the watch. A thumbs up from me.

Actress Chuti Tiu blew me away from beginning to end in this gem of an indie feature. Chuti portrays this character well and the film itself is great with an excellent editor and storyline. A great drama that takes you in deep into the life of a frustrated sexually unsatisfied career woman that is married to a man that is lazy and hasn't worked a job in 2 years. The best part is she comes from a super religious family and still does not care to do whatever she has to, to satisfy her needs. Great watch! Recommended!

I saw this movie with my boyfriend. It was quite refreshing to see such an honest film, one that takes an issue (in this case, adultery) and shows the pain, the issues, and the parties involved. I think many women can relate to the intricate secrets that we hold in our hearts but don't share with the world. Finally, a film that frankly portrays a woman who has desires typically attributed to men. And society disparages, if not maligns, women who display these desires. Hopefully, we will see more films like this – films that don't perpetuate the double standards that have plagued our society for millenia, films that illustrate how women, just like men, appreciate sexuality.

I cried, I laughed. I totally related to the entire story. How Asian parents can be so controlling, no matter how old you are. I think I saw my dad in there somewhere, like the words had come straight from his mouth. Cissy, the main character faced a lot of the challenges that I dealt with growing up and still do. How we all try to be perfect and it explodes in our face sometimes. The secrets families keep and try to hide that bubble up to the surface only to be pushed down again. I can only hope that I have the courage to come out and tell it like it is when the time comes, if it ever comes.
