This 2 part episode was unquestionably the best avatar episode ever aired. (For both series) Episode explains how the first avatar was "born". It is the kind of episode that shatters every bit of inconsistency and answers all the questions people have. It brings the feel of greatness to the avatar which frankly has been missing for a while now. It is an astonishing approach, an extremely well crafted prequel, the kind of basis every series needs. It doesn't matter if you like Korra or not, it doesn't even matter if you haven't watched any episodes from The Legend of Korra. This is the episode that you should watch to understand the world that drives this show, this is the episode you should watch to perceive what it means to be the avatar. This is not the final piece of the puzzle. This is the frame that you put the puzzle pieces on.
I thought the that beginnings parts 1 and 2 were perhaps the two greatest episodes in the canon of Avatar. The explanation into the history of the Avatar was fantastic, as well as the change in animation style which accompanied it. The two episodes succinctly explained everything that we needed to know: about the beginning of the Avatar, about the beginning of bending, about the lion turtles, about the spirits... perfect episode.
For any fans of the original Avatar series - even if you aren't a fan of Korra (though you should be) - these two episodes are a must watch for the reasons outlined above.

So this begging part 1 & 2 are one of the best episodes ever! What a fascinating origin of the avatar! I know you aren't supposed to cry at this but it's so goooooddd! Just a Iroh touch

I just finished watching this episode and I just had to come here and sing praise about it. The music, animation style, humour, drama and effects come together into one beautiful, seamless and free flowing story that scoops you into this beautiful fantasy world, leaving you with a level of love and understanding for the main character that I've never experienced before in any show.
I just have to mention that this is part 2 of a two part episode so I'm also referring to the episode before this. If you haven't watched it you need to GO WATCH IT NOW. You don't even need to have watched the series as this is a prequel, advanced knowledge of the story not necessary. I honestly believe that they could get away with making a part 3 and a part 4 and releasing it as a box office movie.
After watching this episode I feel as though I've reached the climax of the show, I feel as though no other episode, no matter how good will ever be as good or as entertaining. But you know what? I don't even care, this episode was that good.
