Comparisons to The Inbetweeners are inevitable, as the series follows four sixth-formers who talk about sex a fair bit, and one of them's a bit simple. However, it keeps the grossest of its humour (which doesn't hit anything near the worst of the Rudge Park boys' adventures) contained in the dialogue, and really the funniest moments are pure character. Brilliant performances from all four leads make it hard to pick a favourite. Whenever a joke might lag, the girls stay utterly committed and keep the entertainment levels high. Supporting actors are strong too as well, with Colin Salmon, Dolly Wells and Jassa Ahluwalia all giving memorable turns. Hopefully everyone will be back for the second series.
I hate how some are criticising the blonde girl so much. Loads of girls are like this, but it doesn't make them bad people.
It also annoys me ow some people find men sleeping around funny but when it's a girl they call her names!
I thought the acting was excellent. I went and researched the girls' ages in real life, the oldest being 30! I found that astonishing as they are so believable as young girls. It's a comedy sitcom, not the next Shakespeare. Laugh and enjoy.
Honestly... I loved it! Made me laugh all the way through on every episode! Quite a lot like skins and the inbetweeners. I'm watching them all over again now, and can't wait for the next series either. I Don't see how people can't like it, but I guess they have different tastes, this is definitely my type of series but can't believe it was only 10 episodes long, was a lot like inbetweeners but in my opinion a lot better. The blonde girl is always making me laugh, reminds me of my friend,I'm Currently on the 1st episode again now, as I love it so much! Don't know what else to say, very enjoyable and watchable. Definitely 10 out of 10 for the comedy overall.
I guess we are all different in our tastes, and I for one don't know the comedy rules as many of the people who write on here do.. Is it like inbetweeners? Not really and its definitely not like skins. It has its own atmosphere, perhaps I would say that inbetweeners was more bizarre with its scenes which led to laughing so much you can't breath but on the laughter scale this is laugh out loud, I particular love the Ozzy Teacher and I think the acting of everyone is simply brilliant. All in all with any TV series you have to grow to love the characters, they are the integral part of the process that keeps watchers coming back and that's why the shows mentioned above and others like Gavin and Stacy become so popular. I gave it 10 out of 10 because I have enjoyed every single episode there is always something new and exciting and its funny all the way through as well, which is important for a comedy and its not too silly like a bad education, its believable comedy and I for one enjoy dry humour the best, not stupid stunts and over the top jokes.
Im glad I could be the first review.
Some Girls is a girl centric show focusing on four best friends with different walks of life. Unlike American shows that speak to a generation of wealthy white people, this speaks to a REAL generation of young people.
Instead of hiding behind white privilege, Some Girls embraces diversity, in a way no American show ever could.
Not only is this the most interesting show about teenage girls most people haven't seen in ages, it allows a quartet of young women to be as funny, if not, MORE comedic than their male counterparts.
They have attitudes, dirty mouths, have sex, drink, and don't allow to be kicked out of the boys club. If anything, they've made their own club. The "Some Girls" club. And Im glad Im apart of it.
One thing that really surprises me, is that it's centered on Viva. As a dark skinned Black girl, there is not enough of this on television. The show is told through her narration, and she's the perfect leading lady. Fans of Awkward Black Girl can rejoice. Somewhere, someone has answered our prayers.
It's not only just diverse based on race, but on lifestyles, religion, size, and class. Not all white people are rich. Sometimes they're middle or even lower class*gasp*.
I beg anyone without a region free DVD player, get one, or find this show online, or ITUNES. It deserves to be watched. There is finally a show that doesn't ignore that the world is a diverse one.
