In the scene playing over the closing credits, Past Nick says to Future Nick, "Be nicer to Coach, or he's gonna take off, live with a bunch of other white people." Damon Wayans Jr., who played Coach in the pilot episode, left 'New Girl' to return to his co-starring role in the show Happy Endings (2011), where he is the only black character.
