    Weaker Episode

There are some contrived events here but they don't hold together well. Bates is finally released from prison, but there is little done with him. Matthew and Robert continue to battle over how to enhance the finances by retooling the property. Edith goes off to London to see the newspaper man who seems to take a shine to her. The saddest thing is O'Brien seeking vengeance against Thomas for his ill treatment of her nephew. She takes advantage of his homosexuality and puts his future in peril. The christening under Roman Catholicism is another issue. We meet Branson's brother who is a full blooded jerk.

    • Trivia
When Ivy and Alfred are talking about Way Down East (1920), she mentions that she likes its star Lillian Gish, but Alfred says he prefers English stars like Ivy Close, who was the great-grandmother of Executive Producer Gareth Neame and a major silent film star of the teens and 20s.
    • Goofs
For baby Sybil's christening, Tom assures Lady Mary that a Protestant is permissible as a godparent provided the other godparent is Catholic. This is true only since 1983. Before that time, canon law allowed for a non-Catholic to stand in as a proxy to an actual godparent who couldn't be present, but that proxy had to be selected by the godparent rather than by the child's parents.
    • Quotes

[the estate manager has resigned because of Matthew's proposed changes, and Cora and Violet suggest that Robert offers the job to Tom]

Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham: I'll do it on one condition - no, two. First, Matthew must agree.

Cora Crawley, Countess of Grantham: He will.

Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham: Second, you will both admit it when you realise you were wrong.

Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Oh, well, that is an easy caveat to accept, because I'm *never* wrong.
