Torture porn
This episode sums up this entire show as a representation. It's basically torture porn. You watch characters getting tortured for 20-30 minutes combined with bad acting and extremely boring and cartoonish storyline.
You can't help but wonder who is getting tortured here though. I felt like I was the one being tortured because I had to endure such a terrible episode of this terrible show but then again am I surprised that this is happening since this is one of the worst TV shows ever made.
Those who rate this episode 8.9/10 are the same people who rate McDonald's 5 stars on Yelp. They are literally the exact same people.

Premises for the first season are interesting, then it spirals down in a soap opera, disguised as an action-packed show.
If you are looking for a captivating story with believable characters and interesting setup, search somewhere else. The premises are actually very good, the first few episodes are tense, and managed to keep me on the verge. Then the show quickly became a soap opera disguised as an action-packed show where nothing made sense. Characters are poorly written, dialogues are cheesy, the story often goes around in circles, with no evolution. Action sequences feel generic and badly directed. There are tons of sex and nudity scenes that add absoultely nothing to the plot. Most probably they were put there just to increase the runtime of each episode.
Despite all this, "Banshee" can be a secret guilty pleasure, when you just want to completely turn off your brain and enjoy some random violence. I personally began the second season as well, and I have to say that in small doses, this show can be enjoyable and funny. The acting is not the best, but it is not terrible either. All the characters are pretty much a flat blank and fall down in generic clichés. Proctor, which was introduced as a mysterious and captivating villain, quickly becomes predictable and loses all his appeal. Antony Starr, who I have really enjoyed in "The Boys", here is a big letdown. If I have to quickly describe this series, I would say that it is a mix between "Walker Texas Ranger" and "John Wick", but on a budget.

Slide into mediocrity
My initial enthusiasm for the show subsided badly. It became way too unbelievable and in the end we had suspense free, generic action. The drama did not work. All the characters were total cretins. Their actions made no sense. I was cheering on the bad guy mooks at the end, because if the good guys are so dumb, they deserve to lose. Bad writing.
[7.1] Speaking real Ukrainian
An unrealistic series (in its first season) with all unrealistic stuff that one may crave for; good acting, semi-suspenseful situations, bad nail-paint fake blood (the worst visual effects fault out there in the series' world), the second being stabbed / wounded people not caring at all, not staying in the hospital, not taking care of themselves and running like headless scarecrows, after awhile their wounds and injures almost gone by magic; aside those nothing super relatable in the first season besides bright gray tempered steel, booms, bullets, 12 gauges shells and lots of red/purple liquids.
Going to season 2 with an honest 5.5-6 ratings feel, but I won't show it to the show and episode.

wow
Concludes one of the most spectacular first seasons of any show ... ever.
And pretty much sets the bar for future series which (as was the case with the pioneering Buffy, two decades earlier) will no doubt try to riff off some of the more unique aspects.
And this series, make no mistake, was very unique.
Set aside for a moment the excellent writing, casting, and directing.
Set aside the Emmy winning special effects.
Set aside the fact that this story literally explodes into action from episode to episode, without warning.
And set aside for a moment the beautiful women. (It is almost as if the casting team is genetically incapable of NOT casting stunning women even for the most mundane roles -- the female deputy, the prison shrink, not one is hard on the eyes).
What is really impressive, in this writer's view, is the way the entire story arc deconstructs the traditional notions of law and order (the best cop in town, the one with the best results, the one with the most loyal team, is in fact a criminal) and True Love (the hero continually risks everything just to be with the one he loves, yet she continually responds by putting him in harm's way).
Amazing series.
