Oliver Platt and Jeremy Allen White in The Bear (2022)

Fishes

The Bear

4/10

Overrated episode

This episode has one of the highest ratings for the series, but I didn't like it. So far, it is my least favorite episode from season two. The premise is a Christmas flashback episode with Carmy's family. It consists of constant yelling, talking over each other, swearing, and tension among the guests. As I watched it, I really thought someone would snap and something terrible would happen. It departs considerably from the recent more dedicated episodes in which we learned about the supporting characters. Michael makes another appearance in it. He comes across as a bit of a macho jerk for the most part. Maybe that's because he's played by Jon Bernthal who seems to play that personality type frequently. That being said, he does have a moment where he shows a more sensitive and emotional side, hinting at his personal struggles. The mother, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, is a head-case with a violent temper. I guess it runs in the family. The whole 7 fishes tradition also needed a better explanation.
