But, once you get about 3/4 the way through the film, the pieces start to come together. However, there is one actor in particular that you don't really know what happened to them, and what their fate might have been within the "other" world. I liked the story line once it was revealed, but I didn't agree with how the film ended. It really didn't make to much sense at all, and could have easily of gone a different direction.
I do recommend this movie, and also suggest that you pay close attention to the story line. The one thing that I absolutely hated was the makeup FX in the film. It was weak and childish, and could have been much better.
This is a horror indie. The setup is interesting but nothing too original. It's an abandoned haunted house story. However, it's not scary and it's not dramatic. The characters aren't interesting and neither are the actors. It actually gets quite boring. The jump scares aren't scary. It's not dramatic because none of the actors are interesting enough.
The movie does have a few positives such as every now and then some of the actors will let their Canadian accents slip out and that's always good for a few laughs. Please let him say sorry a few more times, oh that's adorable. Oh and there is some unneeded nudity which is always a win.
In short if these people would have woken up instead on that island from Lost, you would be rooting for the smoke monster the entire time. See ya on the island.
I have seen Devil's Seed:2012 which is by the same people and I enjoyed it. This one is nothing like it. As the film progresses we learn more as to where they are and why they are there which you can predict right away. They spend 50 screen minutes just looking for an exit. In some parts I thought watching people go through a revolving door would be more entertaining.
Horror fans won't enjoy this one. There is no real violence but there is nudity. There is a couple of cool looking demons but some look like Charlie Brown's Christmas tree as well! Another problem with this one is all the scenes are in the dark save for a few flashbacks. The very end will have you rolling your eyes.
All in all I was disappointed with this one. This is a film where ten minutes after you watch it you forget you even watched it. That's why I did this review five minutes after I watched it. 5/10.
The creature makeup isn't the worst I've seen, but it's pretty weak by modern standards. Oddly enough, most of the gore is either obscured or off-camera entirely, yet there is a pretty healthy dose of nudity and plenty of rape scenes and implied pedophilia.
As it stands, it's a mediocre and highly derivative movie, without a memorable scene to its name, but what really makes it a stinker are the unpleasant religious undertones. Personally, I can't ignore the fact that this movie suggests that not only are pedophiles and serial rapists/killers able to be redeemed by simply repenting at the last minute, but that they're also on equal moral ground with people who have had abortions. It's a disgusting message and I can't stand for it.
