Tony Shalhoub in Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie (2023)

Review by sharon_sf

Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie

5/10

lazy writing all over. poor tony salhoub.

I don't know what to say. I wasn't expecting very much from this tv nostalgic movie, but even what was going was pretty lame story.

So let's start by asking what was the purpose of this movie ? And the answer is very clear: try to milk some nostalgic 'Mr Monk' fans.

As we see, since that the main purpose of this movie is just to exploit the fans, then the quality of the story is not important, or the integrity of the story is not important.

That put us in a situation where nothing in this movie is really important, but the nostalgic parts' like the re-introduction of randy, Nataly, and Leyland.

So since the story is not very important then what we are left with is some poorly crafted tv episode, when everyone know who is the bad guy in advance, and all we got to do is to wait till the film will be concluded.

The only redeeming g thing in this movies was the introduction of the 'dark Monk' persona, however since this behavior is so different from the monk we used to like in the TV show, then it is probably not going to be liked by the avid fans of monk.

I was missing Harold's character' (it is mention in monk's letter), since Harold became almost a regular character in the show last season.

So it's ok film for a Monk's fans, but with more budget and dedication, it could have been much more.
