Sendhil Ramamurthy, Annabel Scholey, Sam Palladio, and Aggy K. Adams in The Couple Next Door (2023)

Review by brendamaille

The Couple Next Door

10/10

Suspenseful and complex

The plot seems somewhat innocent at the start when a young couple moves into a suburban neighborhood cul-de-sac and all and befriends another young family. There is a side plot with a creepy voyeur neighbor that becomes interwoven in the main storyline of the lives and activities of the 2 main couples. The plot continues to become more complex and suspenseful throughout until the crescendo hits in the last episode. In the end, the main plot line is resolved but there are plenty of subplots that are left hanging perfectly for a season 2.

The acting is superb. The two main characters played by Sam Heughan and Elinor Tomlinson are supported perfectly by Jessica De Gouw and Alfred Enoch and all are totally believable in these roles. They show a full and complex range of emotions. The rest of the cast similarly plays their characters in a very convincing way.

The soundtrack is haunting, foreboding and plays like its own character. I was on the edge of my seat and invested throughout. It was totally binge worthy and exceeded my expectations.
