A real life look into BDSM
I hadn't read "50 Shades of Grey", but was aware of the cultural impact. I watched this doc on a whim with my wife, more out of sheer curiosity about this weird somewhat secretive community. At first I found the culture of domination/submission to be odd and almost offensive. As the movie progressed I found myself not only respecting, but also becoming envious of their lifestyle. There is a point in the movie when one of the interviewees says "If people embraced their fantasies they'd be happier", and after watching this movie, even though I am too squeamish for BDSM, I did take that message to heart. The only drawback is the somewhat washed out production value, but this fly in wall education to this lifestyle more than makes up for it.
What a mess
This is a series of individuals (2 men & several women) talking about BDSM experience but they keep switching between the interviewees, so often that what one person is discussing gets cut off, switches to another person, then another, then another, then back to the first to continue what they were talking about. Totally fragmented. Don't know when they come back to a person if they are continuing a topic or moved on to a new one.
Some sound like they are very new to the scene but again they give no specific context for anyone. They only give their names at the very end. You would have to Google them to find out.
One woman starts by stating "Finally became Sober at 14!" Okay, I have a number of questions from that line but none are answered. Again no context.
Woman talking about being a submissive yet dressed as a dominant left me confused until much later when it was explained.
One person mainly talks about BDSM scenes she has watched. Another (Porn star Allie Haze we find out at the end) performs in movies but says has absolutely no interest in her personal life. And from a Google search she has done few BDSM movies & they are more porn than BDSM. They couldn't find someone that actually experienced those things instead?
You don't learn until halfway thru that some of the people interviewed are professionals in BDSM of some sort. Some of the people am not sure. At that point without context for most of the people and what they are discussing there's little value in what they are saying.
Throughout this movie are clips playing from a Fake S&M/porn movie. Fake because no nudity at all & any S&M action is only sound effects, nothing actually being done.
The people speaking are sometimes difficult to follow as they don't get a chance to finish before switching to someone else. Without any context of who these people are or where they come from, there is little value of what they have to say. For some people, once I learned about them I found no value at all in them. Just a total mess.

Very interesting film.
Like many of us in America I have read the book "Fifty Shades of Grey". So when I came across this film, I was intrigued. I like that this film is about and told by real women. It is an interesting lifestyle, who knew there were rules in the BDSM lifestyle. I learned there is a lot of communication and trust involved in the BDSM lifestyle, which makes sense. Before I saw the film, I thought they were just wild and crazy. But it turns out they are just regular people, could be your neighbors. If you are fans of the "Fifty Shades" books than you will definitely be interested in this film. Even if you are not fans of the book, it's definitely a very interesting film.
A movie to watch with your partner
If you are looking for a movie to watch with your girlfriend, or boyfriend, look no further. Inside the 50 shades takes an incredibly in-depth, interesting look into the real live of people who live the BDSM life style. If you are shy about human sexuality, this film may not be the best pick for you. It is so relieving, and refreshing seeing people being so honest about their sex lives. Most people live boring lives, and would never tell you the most intimate parts of their day, but these people are far from boring, and are as open as can be. This is a great way to see how people who are open and honest live. A must see for anyone who likes honesty in their documentary films.
Watch it with your partner, even better
Very interesting film. I like how this film is told by real women and of different ages. It definitely answered any questions I had about this lifestyle. I was interested and I had my husband watch with me, he liked the film as well. We were just interested to see what this lifestyle was all about. They talked about how they got started in to BDSM, what they've learned, the rules, cuts and bruises. These days you hear about all different types of lifestyles out there. I just like to get a little insight on all of them, to be more open minded. This film does open your eyes to this lifestyle. I would recommend this movie for couples to watch together.
