" . . . Disease," states the narrator of THE UNSEEN ENEMY. The secret agents causing disease can lurk in the air you breathe, the dirt you walk on or in the water you drink. These agents are classified as secret because people cannot see them without magnification. One magnification device is a microscope, which is pictured here as a stack of four magnifying glasses, spaced apart in a metal tube. Careless people who defecate in their farm fields should wash their hands before eating if they like to sift handfuls of dirt scooped up from between the corn rows through their hands. If their drinking water is from the corn field runoff, they also should boil water before drinking it. If they cannot afford hand soap and tea kettles, it might pay off in the long run simply to build a family outhouse, the narrator recommends.
