Good story but

Good story but characterization does need work. Nell has a different personality from the socially awkward girl we first met. Deeks is healing from his torture and wounds. Amazingly, his slashed face is smooth again, with no evidence of those Frankenstein stitches he had in the last episode. Sam is meeting with Nate, the psychologist.

Trivia
Rose (the coroner) was last seen in season 4, episode 12. She is mentioned, but not seen in this episode

Goofs
Original: When Callen and Kensi first meet Carter's girlfriend, Julie, the first thing she asks about is insurance. Then she lies about knowing of anything that might have caused him to become a target. Then she publicises the very sensitive, and dangerous information she had hidden from the team. At the very least she should have been questioned, not just saved and then let go. Considering the contents of the files Julie had were military reports supposedly linked to a cover-up, the information would have been classified, therefore it becomes a national security issue and the whole CIA, FBI, alphabet soup gets involved. And Julie doesn't go home for a while.]

Julie never hid anything from them, they gave her the info to publicise as a plan to draw out the culprit.
