An episode with a rather open-ended ending.

As long as you don't mind that the ending does NOT wrap everything up perfectly, you should enjoy this episode. As for the unfinished business, it is dealt with in a later episode.

The story begins with Dot's sister coming to see Miss Fisher for help. Surprisingly, this sister is NOTHING like Dot...and she's an unapologetic prostitute. The case involves a man who was found in a room with a murdered prostitute friend...and it APPEARS as if it was a murder-suicide.

This is an enjoyable episode and seeing Dot's sister so unlike her was a real surprise. Overall, an interesting mystery that isn't entirely disclosed in this one episode.

    Phryne's Fan Dance

Finally, back on point: style, editing and character driving the story. Arguably, this episode takes us to new heights, showing Phryne executing a topless fan-dance and still managing to be TV-friendly -- no small feat. Support cast are strong again, with both Essie and Nathan pulling small-but-wonderful moments and Ashleigh shining in spotlight scenes. Oh sure, there's also the plot -- which we might not even notice is concluded without really solving the case. But if you're going to show someone one episode of Phryne Fisher to pique their interest (and give a good sense of what's enjoyable about it), this one will do nicely.

    • Goofs
The victim's body on the floor behind the locked door in the room with Sanderson, should NOT have been in that position, it was impossible, as the killer opening the door to leave the room and relock it from the outside would have caused the body to be pushed away from the door, and the blood under her head to be smeared across the floor, but when the body is first seen the victim she has her head against the door which was impossible if the killer left the room be the door, and the police breaking into the room would have also moved the body, but the crime scene photos show the body with her head up against the door and no blood smearing, which was impossible, given that there was no other way in or out of the room.
