The pilot episode is full of great promises. It has a few shocking moments and creates the mystery and mysticism that drags you in. Excellent idea with the voice-over, very helpful to connect with the screen - voice is a magnet, well paced with clear pronunciation. Lead character (Claire) has interesting acting, she is also the voice-over, her face acting is very suggesting. All in all, I got that strange feeling that something marvelous lies ahead - something I rarely feel on TV.

This series has, so far, exceeded any expectations I had. I love the books and Ronald Moore has done an excellent job of bringing this story to the small screen (actually my screen is not so small). This series does a superb job of complementing the books. I look forward to the next 10 episodes (yes, I realize eight of them will be next year). Kudos to the cast and crew for a job very well done. Sam Heughan is well cast as Jamie as Catriona Balfe is as Claire. I look forward to continuing to watch their on screen relationship develop...they already display good chemistry. Tobias Menzies...what can I say, the man deserves an Emmy already. His portrayal of two such different characters is phenomenal. Graham McTavish is doing a wonderful job in his portrayal of Dougal as well.

I found Outlander via Amazon after it aired but was captured from the very first episode. The characters were engaging and great chemistry between Claire(Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan). Tobias Menzies portrayal of Frank/Blackjack was inspired.

After watching the first episode I bought the books and started reading them as I really wanted to compare both.

Both are great and the producers,writers,costume designers have excelled themselves.

Filming in Scotland brought authenticity to the show and it was great to see the country that I love shown in all its glory.

I finally started the series I wanted to start for a long time, the first episode was enough for me very nice. definitely history well reflected visuals and the costumes are successful, I wonder the next episode even now, the love that will pass between Claire and Jamie excited me.

The first episode of Outlander focuses on Claire Randall. A nurse dealing with the wounded of World War 2 and then it is announced the war has ended.

Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and her husband Frank (Tobias Menzies) have been reunited after just seeing each other just a few times during the war. He was in military intelligence and is about to start a post as history professor at Oxford University.

They are visiting the Highlands of Scotland to reconnect. It also allows Frank to look into his family history while Claire can develop her interest in botany.

They watch an ancient druid ritual in Halloween taking place at a stone circle. Later on Claire finds herself cast backwards through time, to the Scotland of 1743.

It is the time of the Jacobite rebellions. Claire at first things she has ended up in a film set. Then she sees a man who looks like her husband but dressed as a royalist soldier who tries to rape her.

She is then rescued by Jamie Fraser, an injured rebel. Claire fixes his injured arm, later as she rides with his group, she heals his wounds after he has been shot.

We see Claire enjoy sexual relations with her husband in an old castle they visited. It is obvious Claire will have a relationship with rugged Jamie.

There is certainly an element of 'we are not in Kansas' anymore. Claire has been taken to her own land of Oz where she is the outsider. She uses her modern knowledge, medical skills and information gleaned from her historian husband to help out the rebels. Claire knows her journey is yet to begin.

This was a beautifully filmed pilot episode with marvellous shots of the Highlands. Claire is a strong and sexual character. Menzies brings sensitivity as Frank and hams it up as his malevolent ancestor, Black Jack Randall.
