Setting Up a Room

Thanks RiffTrax for introducing this unintentionally hilarious slow-paced cult masterpiece that even Kelly Reichardt would be jealous of... ;)

Fun fact: It was actually directed by a female teacher who wrote books I found on Google Books about bus trips and day cares. (No kidding)

And this movie is a good example of that. Of course, it is possible that a thrill-filled and educational movie about how two kindergarten teachers arrange all the stuff in their classroom can be made. But this movie certainly doesn't qualify as one.

It also makes me wonder about what they were teaching in kindergarten in 1967, less than a decade after I was in kindergarten. They have a woodworking setup, which was something that sensible adults wouldn't allow small children near in 1958.

I'm running out of sensible or amusing things to say about this movie, with a bit more needed to bring it up to minimum length for IMDb reviews. There. Done.

This film gives a great insight into the many aspects of designing a room for optimal efficiency and the enjoyment of children as they learn and grow in a classroom environment. The action is well directed and the copy narration is insightful. A must see for every teacher wishing to learn the core strategies and concepts involved in setting up a room.
