    Just brilliant

I cannot believe the amount of people who have given bad reviews to the episode just because they couldn't cope with its big reveal. The revelation about Cap. Flint is not only amazingly bold but it also makes perfect sense (it is also clear to me that it had been hinted at during season 1). It deepens the character motivations and it fits perfectly with what we know about him. My interest in what's coming next has only been increased because of this, specially considering the show has now added a new element to its study of pirate (and British) culture during the era.

Capitain Flint is even more layered now, and the show has made a bold movement for which it should be commended. Deal with it.

    most beautiful episode

The whole show was astounding but this episode was my favorite. It was beautiful.

    Know no shame.

This was an eloquent, brilliantly written, beautifully heartfelt episode, despite all the testosterone and blood flying or maybe in spite of it. I had a bit of a suspicion since season 1 and this episode confirmed it. Know no shame. Words to live by in the entirety of Black Sails. Those who are disappointed with this episode, too bad for you to not get it. Those who are bigoted about the content of this episode and it's message should feel shame for their intolerance. Kudos to the whole cast, crew, writers, and anyone else associated with this episode for your courage in taking on and supporting this constant struggle for a community who should KNOW NO SHAME.

    Brilliance

I write in in stunned disbelief, since there are three viewers above me expressing disbelief and even prejudice, at the 'big reveal' in this episode. As this is a spoiler-free comment, I will just say that Flint's motivation and character continue to deepen and much of his determination and almost maniacal drive is explained: he is both running from his past and even from his sense of himself. His reserve and distance makes more sense than ever. The sensitivity shown in how this was done through a series of well-timed flashbacks and real-time action was highly effective.

Black Sails is so much more than a 'pirate show'. Like 'Vikings', which in some ways it closely resembles, it is a study of human nature as much as it is a costume drama. Brilliant TV.
