Watchable
I think this was ultimately a Christian movie without being preachy, so have at it.
DON'T BOTHER - YOU'VE ALREADY SEEN IT!
C grade movie that could have been written by a high schooler themselves. It's sooo predictable like all these high school shooter films. The actors did their best with a very mediocre script but it was just bland, predictable, and droningly boring. Cinematography was adequate, audio ok mostly, lighting ok. Makeup and hair could have been much better.
Don't waste your time when there's so many of these exact same stories out there. Try "Elephant" instead. No offence to the actors and crew but this was crap.

Poetic justice version
This is said to be based on a true story, which makes it even more of a compelling best-case scenario. It's the story of one alert student who sees what one of his school mates has planned and decides to stop him. The film has decent acting and all the young people are very attractive (unfortunately, the sign of a more mature, larger budget film is that not everyone looks like a model and does their scenes while posed for their best side; that's not the case here). The actor who played Indrid was probably the best actor here but they all did an acceptable job as a made for tv movie free of graphic situations or language. If I had tweens or teens in my house, I wouldn't be opposed to them watching this.
They could have added more charcter depth but it got it's points across.
It makes me realize that not enough kids are being given a higher power to look up to, to talk to, and to have faith in. Teens are very vulnerable to peer expectations and bullying and if the parents aren't available or approachable, kids need to have a strength they can find comfort in.
I wish people would review films like this fairly because the over all 4* rating doesn't reflect the valuable message here.

The new kid
Natural Selection stars Mason Dye as the new kid in high school who has must
moved to town with mother Amy Carlson. Carlson has never gotten over the
breakup of her marriage and has sbstance abuse problems. Often Dye is the
designated adult in the family.
Because of his home situation Dye doesn't make friends easily. One who does befriend him is Ryan Manzert who is friendly enough and acts as a protector of sorts. But is gradually revealed to be a very dark character.
Natral Selection is a well acted drama. But the pace is dreadfully slow. It's like an extended version of an after school special.

A simple film with very intriguing yet dark characters
Overall a very good film that i thoroughly enjoyed, although a relatively simple story line that is somewhat predictable it is done in a way that is still very interesting to watch. Chad Scheifele attention to detail in his characters made both Indrid and Tyler in particular really come to life. The similarity between the protagonist and antagonist made for a dynamic that shows how a person's response can define and change their situation. The dark and twisted side of both Tyler and Indrid made the characters feel particularly relatable to the deep, dark thoughts we all hide with in. Definitely a must watch for anyone who enjoys character based stories that build the foundation for a compelling film.
