Fun and smart. A masterpiece. My first written review.

The most bad ass princess with cool Mechs and dragons and magic. Excellent art and colors pops on blu ray. Characters that seem more real then any anime I've watched so far. Great story with many twists and a great characters. It opens the imagination and each episode makes you want to see the next. The echhi isn't half as bad as some and more cleverly put in then most anime. It drives the story instead being put in for fan service and becoming awkward for those that aren't looking for that most of the time. They swear a lot but it seems normal and not forced. I'm just getting into anime and watched about a dozen series now and this is by far the best in maturity, characters, plot, art and world building. I never wanted to write a review for the thousands of shows and movies I've watched over 40 years until this one. Why? Because it shows a measly 300+ reviews and this artful masterpiece needs to be seen by more people that are true fans of the genre.

    Not for everyone

Cross Ange is a very irritating show with that said this anime has good story telling and twist Keep in mind this anime is not for everyone. The only thing hooked me to this show is the plots . Cross Ange anime is not for everyone 90 percentage of character is trash. Vulgarity of undeniable irritating. Aside from countless problem it can be watched from a point of view for once.

The gender discrimination is too vulgare too a point of unbearable.

Personal i didn't like main protagonist at all she became more trash character time pass . After an incident we think she had some character development but fell the same .

Some prominent side character has very good character development I ever seen.

Cross Ange is a very irritating show with that said this anime has good story telling and twist Keep in mind this anime is not for everyone.

Cross Ange is Honestly one of the B E S T Anime I've watched!

Everything about this anime is AMAZING. From Character Development to the fight scenes, i love them all.

Ange and Tusk are the best couple I've ever seen, the romance scenes are very enjoyable and worthwhile to watch. If anyone wants more mecha / romance anime like Cross Ange, you should try Eureka Seven, it's one of the best mecha animes i've watched. It gets better at Episode 18, so bear with it till then.

    Undeservedly overlooked

Cross Ange is a genuinely amazing anime. The protagonist, Ange, lives in a marvellous land where everyone can use magic, except for a few dangerous individuals who are born unable to use it, called Norma. These individuals are shunned by society and shipped off to an island to pilot transforming mechs and fight invading dragons.

When Ange discovers she herself is a Norma and her royal parents had been hiding it from her and her people, she too is shipped off to "hell" to fight dragons.

The story only expands from there. I don't want to spoil things but as events spiral out of control, absolute destruction on the scale seen in Evangelion happens. The ingenuity and uniqueness of the plot are quite unmatched.

Ange is a fantastic character who grows stronger with every episode as she slowly finds her true self. By the end she's so confident and heroic that she won't hesitate to pull a gun and blow out the brains of a villain.

The supporting cast are all also excellent. Many characters start out as antagonists only for later events to show them in a much more sympathetic light. Even the characters who never become fully sympathetic have believable and realistic motivations. There's Salia who just wants approval from her hero and Hilda who just wants to go home to her mother; both their stories are standouts for me.

The first three episodes are pretty dark, reflecting Ange's plunge into despair. But the tone soon starts to change, so please do give the show a chance to set up the story. It's 25 episodes long and builds to a fantastic and exciting climax.

The animation is pretty good, you do get the odd misshapen head or wonky mouth but it's fairly rare. The score by Akiko Shikata is superb, the theme of Villkiss (Ange's special mech) is particularly amazing and the 10 minute track to the final showdown is incredible.

If you like anime and especially if you enjoy the mecha genre, I really recommend you give Cross Ange a try. It has both a sub and a dub so you're catered for whichever way you like to watch. It's hard to believe so few people know about this anime, it's a real shame it is so overlooked.
