After a Zombie Apocalypse, the United States is in chaos without president and chain of command. In the upstate New York, Lieutenant Mark Hammond (Harold Perrineau) has lost his Delta Force men, but is still trying to transport to California a man that was bitten by a zombie but has survived. This man may be the last chance to produce a vaccine. He meets a group of survivors from National Guard and together they collect other survivors and reach an outpost that has been completely destroyed. They find a baby but soon there is a zombie attack and he turns into a zombie. Now Hammond has to kill the baby.
The promising pilot "Z Nation - Puppies and Kittens" is a frantic and deceptive show. The development of the situation and characters is too rushed and very poor. The zombies move too fast, in a totally different view from the traditional scary zombie. Harold Perrineau seemed to be the lead actor but his character is limited to this episode. My vote is six.

Z Nation's charm comes from its self awareness. Really, when you get down to it, the idea of a zombie apocalypse is utterly ridiculous; Z Nation knows that.
However, they nail the seriousness of the human experience. In a world where the dead come back to feed on the living the earnest performances and crazy/brilliant plot lines will take you through all manner of emotions as long as you're up for the ride.
B movie style brilliance!
Z Nation is amazing! Yes it is no The Walking Dead and will never be. Syfy is not going for that. Just think. This is the network that makes Sharknado and Sharktopus. All it is is a funny zombie show with lots of zombie kills.
Of course with this being a pilot, there were flaws. But isn't there flaws in any show? Yes the dialogue is cheesy like a B horror movie. But it's fun!
And it seems like they are upping Walking Dead in terms of content. Zombie baby! The Walking Dead has been on for 4 years and there has been no zombie babies. In Z Nation it's in episode 1!
I saw that Harold Perrineau is in this. He seems to be getting a lot of work, being a big part of the popular show Lost, then in Sons of Anarchy, and now this and the upcoming Constantine. DJ Qualls is always good and brings humor to everything he's in.
So just take a step back and enjoy the pilot and hopefully the show.

I saw the trailer on Netflix I said to myself oh my god this is what I am looking for after TWD has been so boring, when I watch the first part of this episode I was so satisfying untill the ZOMBIE BABY shows i put my finger in the shut down very quick, what the hell is going on with you people!!
new zombie series at first looked promising with the script but having watched the first episode thats all it was " promising". acting is well below par and the camera work is all over the place with terrible editing. to be honest i would put it on a par with a sub rate b-movie which belongs on the syfy channel. on the plus side there is plenty of scope for improvement and should they want to be picked up for a 2nd season i suggest that some serious work needs to be done on cast and camera crew. just one mans opinion. think we've been spoilt with the walking dead and anything else will seem 2nd rate. give it a watch if its your cup of tea though.
