I really enjoyed this episode. The flashback helped fill in the storyline of how the original glee members came to join the group. But mostly it gave the show a reason to use archive footage of Finn which was really nice to see. No, it doesn't add anything to the current season or drive the storyline but I don't think the writers added this for that point. It made me happy and sad at the same time. I'm glad the show chose to add this episode, likely as a way to include Cory one last time. I really respect that the show chose to make this episode if only for that reason alone. It felt like and authentic way to show that he is very much missed and will never be forgotten.
I got teary eyed remembering from season one and how they showed Cory. It was lovely bringing back the viewer to when the rivalries started. Mercedes's choir friend was right. Competing with Rachel kept her on her toes and they all became friends despite being a loser or a jock. it brought them closer together and even at odds, they still respected each other. Puck and Finn got slushied, just because the joined. they learned how to be better from the support and put aside differences. It would be nice if real students/ high schools could learn a lesson from the show. I did not have clubs in my high school besides sports, I would have loved to have the support the characters have through each other.
