This show isn't a survivalist show. Live Free or Die refers to how the participants choose by different degrees to simplify their lives in a way that allows them to be free from debt and free from the anxiety caused by reliance on a consumer lifestyle. In 2008, the participants probably watched the world's economy almost collapse because lots of people bought lots of things that they really couldn't afford. Millions of people lost their jobs and all they owned because the bankers wouldn't loan unless we consumers (the government) agreed to assume the banks' "toxic assets." There isn't much difference between these people and more "normal" people who strive to be debt free by repairing a car instead of buying a new one, or raising a few chickens and putting in the equivalent of a victory garden. Fun, informative and entertaining.
I met Derek at a rendezvous and he had made some throwing knives and I bought them. Still have them. He is a nice, down to earth guy. I thought they made more then 3 seasons when I looked it up, bring back the show, Or follow derek around at some rendezvous, which are really fun. You meet nice people find hand crafted items you can't find in stores, learn how they lived in 1800s, and they have competition's, which are so fun to participate in, shooting bow, throwing knives, axes, black powder guns. And so many more games because no rendezvous is alike. Rendezvous rendezvous rendezvous rendezvous.
I stumbled onto this gem of a show only to find out it has been canceled after 3 seasons. Why me?!?! Lol... I really enjoyed LFOD! Of course some of the issues that came up did seem scripted. However, which "reality" show doesn't have moments that seem scripted? I hate that the show has been canceled. I found the show very interesting, seeing how some people choose to live a harder life. Colbert is my favorite person from the show! Amelia and what's his face are ok but, she is way too nice looking for what's his face! Lol... Thorne is a little too strange for my taste and seems like he is trying to hard to be one of "those types of people."
I don't care for Gabriel's character/story at all. Overall the show is definitely worth a watch. You can watch all the seasons on Hulu!!!
Wish there were more seasons! An update on everyone would be awesome! Love Amelia!
I expected this to be the typical outdoor/survival program. Boy oh boy was I wrong! This one stands out. This is a "parody" of a survival show, and the characters don't seem to realize it! The Nat Geo narrator sounds like Yogi Bear talking to Boo Boo. These folks are the most ignorant simpletons you will EVER meet in your life. They couldn't find their way out of a paper bag, and that's what makes this show worth watching. They are dressed like cartoon characters...green felt outfit...little red riding hoods jacket...At some level you began to realize that it has to be scripted and these morons are actors, cuz they would have starved to death and died after the first episode if it were real.
