In the graveyard scene Jeremy Sisto checks the gun to see if it was loaded after it didn't kill hin and it revealed it was a loaded gun. However all of the "centerfire" cartridges shown when he opened the gun had an indentation in the "center", meaning they were used empty cartridges...not bullets.
