Why Would Anyone Produce All That Film Just To Wrap It Around The Earth Six Times?

It takes nineteen minutes in this movie to turn the raw materials -- cotton and silver, with soupcons of nitric acid and gelatin -- into finished, boxed and labeled rolls of negative film. It takes longer in real life. There's a constant flow cotton being washed and silver being dissolved, men inspecting huge sheets of film and women strolling through the gardens at noon. That's presumably during lunch time. It's probably a month or so for each batch. Then there's a couple of minutes in which tiny men film the results of a year's output being wound around the earth.

This was added to the National Film Registry in 2023.
