Not Horror Perse - More Real Life Drama
I seriously dont know why this is categorized as horror, there is nothing but a bit of makeup and concept that would lead one there. This is more of a drama/suspense about addiction, relationships and life choices that utilizes a so called "demon" as a sort of metaphor for the bad choices & alcohol addiction. I think it's a 7 or 8 if you struggle with addiction based on story concept and metaphors brought forth. I think it's a 5 overall if you are not an addict based mostly on camera/filming issues. Overall, a 6 because it's a great story, the acting is mostly good and great effort by lead for also writing and directing. I would commend her/them on a job well done for an indie film. Worth watching, for sure worth it if you struggle with addiction.
Maritza Brikisak Shines!
Maritza Brikisak shines in this story of a woman dealing with the effects of a tortured past and alcoholism.
We each deal with our checkered past in a different way. Some compensate with drugs and alcohol. Some ignore it, but find it comes back to haunt us. And some live in the days gone by, carrying the hurt and pain around with them. While there are better ways to deal with what we have had to endure, some chose what helps them get through the day. Sadly, there are those who are hurt in the wake.
Cailean could be anyone. Her story isn't new or fresh, but it, like this movie is gritty and real. She has made choices in the past that she has carried with her to adulthood. Those choices bring her to the end of her life. There she meets - and deals - with Death. Death hopes to break her spirit and win her soul, except he doesn't count on Cailean breaking him. But how will it all end? What sacrifices will Cailean have to make, after death, and how will those she loves deal with her choices?
If you are looking for a light movie with feel-good characters and happy times, don't watch The Lurking Man. If you want to watch a darker movie with real life people dealing with real world issues then The Lurking Man is for you. Our 16 year old daughter really enjoyed watching with my husband and I. The Actors and Actresses portrayed their characters perfectly with settings and situations are familiar.

Hearts in eyes, loved it!
First of all, I LOVE Horror movies, my fave genre of all films (horror rom/com would be totally awesome)
Kick in the suspense of The Lurking Man, you had my attention at the get go. Totally loved the beginning how the actors and the editor (sound & picture) made a strong pom pom feeling. The protagonist popped as though she was being revived
Drew me in, in a big way. Great work from all involved'
I felt fear in a good way, yet felt real sad for her... All the actors in this indie film rocked. Cailean and Deaths make up was so cool! Would love a part two, to see Chilean as the Angel of Death.
cool film
Have to say, horror films are not my first choice. My bf rented it and I was totally blown away. The story was sad, mixed with life lesson of numbing the senses with alcohol just to get through the guilt of past mistakes. The beginning and end was real awesome. Gotta say, the wings were way cool. I really liked this film.
Lots of touching scenes. To my surprise the scary turn at the end had me wanting to know more. Cool stuff

- TriviaDuring the early stages of development, 'Sariel' had been thought of being mostly a Voice Over role. When 'Daniel Lench' auditioned, he was so animated that the character was reworked to include him in most all of his scenes with 'Cailean', he became a figure dwelling in the shadows,
- Alternate versionsThe original uncut version of 'The Lurking Man' is being released March 2022 in Vimeo, simply titled 'The Lurking Man uncut'. Back in 2017, Maritza Brikisak, the executive producer, decided to release a shorter and rated version of 'The Lurking Man' to make it more acceptable for festival audiences. This uncut version is closer to the vision of the writers, it is very dark, it explores the love triangle of Wilson, Caliean and Emerson and shows dark forces possessing and manipulating a man into committing suicide. It will be in 4K , unrated, it will have a new poster and corresponding unrated trailer. The writers Keith Rommel and Maritza Brikisak are very pleased the world will see the film the way it was intended.
