Summary
Reviewers say 'The Witcher' series is lauded for Henry Cavill's performance as Geralt, captivating fantasy world, and impressive action sequences. The show's visual effects and character chemistry receive high praise. However, it is criticized for its intricate and occasionally confusing narrative, pacing problems, and deviations from the original material. Some express dissatisfaction with casting decisions and character development. Replacing Henry Cavill has sparked significant backlash, with many fearing it will diminish the show's quality and viewer interest.

10/10 for Henry Cavill, 6/10 for everything else
Pretty much only kept watching for Cavill and Jaskier. They both did an amazing job, especially Cavill as the Witcher, his scenes and acting were perfect. Its too bad he was surprisingly only in about third of the scenes. Found myself bored with scenes without him and just wanting to skip ahead. Many of the other characters lacked charm and interesting sub plots and felt they had too much attention paid to them and that they were overall lacklustre. Would have liked more attention paid to Cavill and monster hunting. Really disappointed that Henry will not continue with the show since he single-handedly made it worthwhile to watch. Here's hoping the new actor can do the role justice.
Gold does NOT rust!
Strangely enough, this goof describes the downfall of the series perfectly.
Season 1: 10 Stars, simply amazing, beyond expectations.
Season 2: 8 Stars. Very good with many lovely story telling.
Season 3: ... What the hell was that?
In one of the latest episodes of season 3, Yennefer says "Look at all these Gold, left here to rust".
Yennefer is a powerful sorcerer, that has lived for centuries and has extensive knowledge in alchemy. She would most definitely know that Gold does not rust. That's what makes it so special.
And that summarize the quality of the 3rd season and how once an amazing show with beautiful story, wide characters and extended knowledge has now become a total waste of time.

Imperfect, but promising 1st season, disappointing 2nd season
Watched both seasons when they came out.
Liked the first season, unlike lots of people also liked the added Yennefer content. Didnt mind the chronological jumps but I understand that it might be somewhat confusing for some people. However in my opinion the solution to this was not to switch to a linear story, but to make the chronology and the flashbacks more accesible.
Sadly I have to agree, with the backlash to the second season, especially the backlash from the book fans. The writing team abandoned its source material, and replaced it with a very shallow, very generic fantasy plot already seen in dozen of fantasy series. Some characters are way off, also in regard to the way they were established in season 1. There is no promised "grey morality" or moral questions, its very bluntly communicated, who and what is to be considered "good and evil". Its also quite boring.
It seems at this point, netflix bought the brand name "The witcher", but decided to make its own thing to fit the casual audience, with flashy visuals.
Marvel light.
Its sad. The dark, harsh, cruel and unforgiving fantasy world of the witcher, with its rich characters with different motivations, interesting moral questions and plot inspired by eastern european folklore and actual eastern european history had the potential to be special, even as a sandpapered hollywood version.
A lost oppurtinity.

Season 3 made me change my rating from 8 to a 5
Season one I found actually pretty good (only read a small part of the books) - season two showed me glimpses of good stuff but my God, what kind of monster have they created with season 3?
I'm hoping the producers and executives will finally come to their senses and stop pushing a series in a direction everyone knows people will hate. It's like they listed to the fans, take that point of feedback and go the exact opposite direction and then are amazed ratings and views are down.
Truly mind boggling how think so highly off themselves that they let the main actor walk away before listening to feedback.

I see why HC quit
Don't usually write reviews but this 3rd season was so bad. Boring, weak soap opera, forcing narrative, been there done that garbage. The future is not bright for this show. The only bright spot was the monsters and they were few and far between.
It started as if it was going to be a great season, maybe one of the best scenes in the series but went stale instantly. Wayyyy to talky, very little action. The story was all over the place and the recaps were the only value. You can probably watch the recaps and be done with it. I'm not sure how episode 7 made it to the screen. And out of nowhere the narrative hits the bard... cmon when will this nonsense end.
Watch and you'll probably feel like you've seen everything in this season before in multiple shows and movies. Very dissatisfying and disappointing.

- TriviaHenry Cavill's training for the role consisted of extensive sword-training (besides the rigorous bodybuilding required to prepare his physique for the camera). He said, "I spent all of my free time, and when I wasn't on set, with a sword in my hand. It was getting used to the weight of the sword, using it day in and day out. I had three swords where I lived, and four at work. And it was just non-stop practice, practice, practice."
- GoofsAt various instances, the incorrect sword type is used by Geralt. Geralt carries two swords: the dark-hilted sword with Renfri's broach on the crossguard is made of steel while the white-hilted sword is coated in silver. It is established that only silver works against monsters, especially for ensuring a killing blow. This straight-forward rule is not followed in various episodes of the series despite being mentioned in the first episode (and in latter episodes as well).
