I don't do lengthy in depth reviews I keep things simple overall. An 8 for tv for me is a 7 for a movie (tv versus movie seem to be on a different scale)(tv 8 means good). This show is very funny, it's silly, it's slightly weird. If you like slightly odd shows and are feeling nostalgic for the 80's you may like this. Some of the dialog is hard to understand as an American. But it is just funny characters doing funny things. It also reflects real life in the 80s in Ireland. The first episode involves selling black market condoms, and they play it out like they are dealers in the hood a little bit. Turns out condoms were in fact illegal in Ireland from 80-85. Other shows of similar appeal-father ted, spaced, the young ones, man seeking woman, kids in the hall, trial and error, and married with children most aptly. If you liked any of those you may like this show.
Found this on Hulu when I was checking out which programs each station offered. This show is a hidden gem, at least here in the states. I'll be honest it took a while before I could start finding it funny. Sort of like a slow burn. But after the second or third episode I really started to enjoy it. Now I have gone back and watched the series twice and love every episode. It's a little on the nose but so well done.
Peg and Al move to '80s Ireland, have 3-5 more children, ignore them 99% more, and have sketch show like adventures such as simultaneously performing MacGyver and Golden Girls at the gunpoint of not-IRA, but IRA-adjacent, like how lettuce is part of a taco but is not a taco. The analogy is not supposed to make sense.
The deeper into this series you go, the more they give up on any sitcom continuity and it becomes more like a sketch show with a sitcom thread holding it together. It makes for more ridiculousness but also prevents feeling sad for any of the characters' misfortunes.
Their friends are a hoot, and at first I thought I recognized Frank and the Father, but I was mistaken. I blame Airwolf and Concepta's cleavage. Fun supporting cast, and just a delightful, often outrageous, sketchy sitcom.
I looked up the two leads and was disappointed they haven't done much since! I'd gleefully watch a Season 5 or another project of theirs. If they showed Bridget's brand of cigarettes every time she smoked, they could have funded projects for life.
If you are binge watching the series with some friends, you must take a shot every time they say "choppy-changey".
Subtitles were most welcome.

I must also respectfully disagree with the one star review. This show is funny and clever, and completely over the top (in the best possible way). I watched the first episode with little hope, but then found myself binge watching the entire season in one day.
In my opinion, Bridget & Eamon is one of the funniest shows to ever come out of Ireland -- give it a try.

I respectfully disagree with the 1 star review - yes you're meant to think Eamon is a moron and like all characters, the great ones are never the main/lead roles (See Ep 3 - Frank in the bed!). Having grown up in the 80's with Irish family members on both sides of the border, there are references and idiosyncrasies within the script that have kept me chuckling and the black-market condom scenes were brilliant. Comparing Bridget & Eamon to Seinfeld is pointless, as B&E isn't trying to be intelligent. Given the similarities I've seen between the characters and my own Irish family members I imagine a great proportion of the script is inspired by their own experiences. The costume, titles, cinematography help paint the 80's vibe - which I love. The show reminds a little of Father Ted.
