Ignore the Negative Reviews
The messages in this film are even more relevant today than when the film was released. Consumerism and materialism are not important as we've been led to believe. The covid lockdowns and mandatory restrictions are opening people's eyes to what is really important and this film illustrates it perfectly. The acting is excellent and César Troncosco, who plays Mellon, is SUPERB. Thank you for making this poignant movie.
A modern mythology, worth watching
For those reading reviews in order to ascertain if the movie is worth watching, I'd say yes... absolutely. Sure, it's possible that you'll have criticism of certain unnecessary plot twists, cliche's and loose ends... but make your own mind up. Watch for yourself. It's most probably better than the alternative you have lined up.
Even if it may not be a perfect 10, there's a lot to get out of it... especially if you haven't read the book.

Please don't base your decision on the movie's rating.
This is a true gem; it teaches you how to overlook the trivial things in life and wreck your own life; it's all about finding that coma and writing the story you want to live.
Predictable and weak performances with cliche speeches.
This is one of the best selling books in Brazil, so i was expecting a good film, unfortunately it is not.
Actors with very weak performances and a very predictable script but with speeches that some may find interesting, however it's a big cliche talking about how our society is "empty" and how we are losing our values. Maybe with a better script and better actings it could worked a lot better.
Maybe it can work for people who don't have a lot of knowledge and worldview, however anyone who never read a good self-knowledge book, may find the movie incredible.

Powerful, Moving and Unique
I knew nothing about this film but just liked the title and the promo image, so thought I'd go for it. I'm SO glad I did. It was like no other film I've ever seen. Firstly, the music was exquisite - and so was the the casting, the cinematography, the acting and everthing else about it. But I found the heart of this film to be the powerfully, cleverly, beautifully elucidated message - i.e., that many humans have lost their basic humanity and many (most?) in power are only interested in power (and money honey), and NOT the greater good. I'm not used to hearing the things that make me mutter obscenities under my breath when I watch the nightly news, being strongly expressed in a film, so it took me by surprise (in a good way). Lots of people apparently feel uncomfortable when confronted with these 'concepts', and dismiss it all as merely clichéd. On one level that's undeniable, but on a deeper level, those damn clichés are...'uncomfortable truths' (oops sorry, another annoying 'cliché') Anwyay - loved it! Don't miss it!
(P. S. thank you to all involved with this film and especially to the writers - write on!).
