Xiaoyang no longer listens to you cause he lost all respect for you.

It's very painful to watch parents ignoring children, dismissing their "little" pains and sorrows. Also their joys. Children see everything. They even see what you don't. What you don't realize you're showing.

Loathed the father. Actively breaking up his son's friendship, keeping him from his hobby. A child wanting to spend time outdoors, run around with his mates, play sports? Sounds like a dream these days. Parents are having a hard time getting their children to leave their room, their computer or phone.

This movie restored my faith in Chinese movies. Of course throwback movies focusing on formative experiences and an older, kinder and understanding adult are a special kind of genre. Add a small town vibe and plenty of beautiful sets and some family drama that wraps up nicely, what more could you ask for?

I absolutely loved the canals and the old houses and the woodwork. Urban development be damned.
