I'm not sure this movie classifies as a comedy film. It's a light movie, but it's more serious than funny if you ask me. I really love this indie movie, and I watched it because of Anya Taylor-Joy. She did phenomenal and so did Olivia Cooke.

Superb film that on a scenario already seen several times produces an exciting whole. In any case where we never guess what will happen next. Our two female characters are intriguing, that's the whole point of the film: the plot about what they are going to do with the horrible father-in-law of one of them is only a pretext. Olivia Cooke and Anya Taylor-Joy are fascinating. The interactions of their two characters make the film and story worthwhile and it doesn't matter much what they do. They are preoccupied with Anya Taylor-Joy's stepfather who is horrible to her, a necessary element to their interactions.
The music of the film extremely worked with percussion is a success and multiplies the tension with alacrity. The film is a brilliant exercise in style, both in terms of acting and directing, the script and the dramatic progression. The two actresses are formidable. Their characters remain mysterious, in very different ways from each other. The evolution of the story, very simple, captivates the spectator by dosing the mini surprises to arrive at a conclusion unimaginable at the beginning of the film, but totally coherent.
This film is a great success and a good surprise.

Apparently it was very upsetting to a lot of reviewers here that they found this in the comedy section of their local Red Box or whatever, saw two peppy looking teen girls on the cover, and had severe overreactions when they discovered that this movie "misled". It seems so strange to me that people continue to blind-watch movies and then get mad at the movie for not being what they convinced themselves the movie was about. You would have spent just as long watching a trailer or reading a one paragraph synopsis or review as you did coming back here to leave an awful review trashing a movie for your own mistake, but then I guess you'd have to admit that the problem was on your end.
Look, this is NOT a comedy. There are a few dry laughs here and there, but this is absolutely not a movie you want to watch for the laughs. This is a drama and it's one that deals with some pretty dark subjects. Unfortunately, it's hard to talk about what the point of this movie is without giving everything away. Let's just say it's the story of a friendship that forms between two very disturbed young women which takes a look at the darker side of human nature along the way. It's surprising, disturbing, and also surprisingly touching at times.

They're: Amanda (Olivia Cooke) who euthanizes her crippled horse with a knife, resulting in charges of animal cruelty. Some time later, Amanda arrives at the home of the more popular and academically-inclined Lily (Anya Taylor-Joy). The girls had previously been best friends but grew apart after the death of Lily's father. Together, they hatch a plan to solve both of their problems-no matter what the cost. They meet under the pretense of hanging out and having a casual tutoring session, but Amanda knows that her mother (Kaili Vernoff) has paid Lily to socialize with Amanda. Lily denies being paid, but Amanda, left emotionless by an unspecified mental disorder, is unfazed. Lily meets with Amanda again, this time voluntarily, and they rekindle their friendship.. When Thoroughbreds (2017) was filmed they were partially known (both actresses are English) , Anya Taylor-Joy and Olivia Cooke are today at the maximum height of their fame thanks to films ¨Furiosa: a Mad max saga¨ and ¨House of the Dragon¨ series. They are the authentic and beautiful protagonists, being briefly accompanied by a good support cast, such as: Paul Sparks, Francie Swift, Kaili Vernoff and Anton Yelchin to whom the film is dedicated due to his premature death due to an accident at the age of 27 .
This Thoroughbreds (2017) results to be Cory Finley's directorial debut. The film remained unreleased for two years, then the movie was later released with relative success. This film is incredbily entertaining and intriguing from beginning to end. Our two lead actresses both give fantastic performances, as wealthy teenage girls from suburban Connecticut. The story unfolds in a very interesting way and the ending left me satisifed. The cameraweork is stunning, and the direction is great, especially for a directorial debut. It manages to be both comedic and dark and balances the tone quite well. There is one plot line including Anton Yelich that I would have liked to see wrapped up a little better, but it definietely does not take away from the overall enjoyment of the film. This film is intriguing and brings a much-needed spin to a genre that often produces subpar films. You should definitely go watch Thoroughbreds, you will not be dissapointed.
