Prakash Raj, Hansika Motwani, Udhayanidhi Stalin, and Aishwarya Rajesh in Manithan (2016)

Trivia

Manithan

Edit
One of the sets of the film was destroyed by the floods, that happened at Chennai in 2015.
Post the success of Endrendrum Punnagai, Udhayanidhi Stalin the owner of Red Giant movies approached Ahmed and booked him as the director for his next venture. Ahmed agreed to do the film as he felt it was his way of expressing his gratitude towards Red Giant movies who were instrumental in the success of Endrendrum Punnagai. Red Giant movies were the official distributors of Endrendrum Punnagai and ensured a grand opening for that film.
Before Manithan started Ahmed had made up his mind that his next film will not fall in the comedy genre and it so happened that Udhayanidhi Stalin too was looking to come out of his comfort zone of comedy and try out something new. So Ahmed started scripting a Film titled "Idhayam Murali", a love story that is completely set in the Unites states. They had even finalized a few locations for the shoot however once the script work was done they realized that the film demanded a much bigger budget than what they have initially planned. So the project was dropped.
Later when Ahmed watched Jolly LLB he felt it would be a suitable film for an actor like Udhayanidhi Stalin. So when they decided to buy the remake rights of that film Ahmed felt it needed certain changes in order to suit the taste of the regional audience. He felt there were some loop holes in the plot and he wanted to fill all that in the remake. He felt that the original film was a very intense court room drama and wanted to add a few more elements to it so that it would appeal to the masses.
