Its inclination to not reveal everything from the start and give us clues on how the relationships work in that environment is simply clever. For it engages us, the viewers in the show more!..

Its simplicity in showing the daily life of a group of "black people" is also powerful enough as well as its dialogues...

It has a darker comedy in it that we see it really is representing a fraction of life.

We know Donald Glover from the show called Community and we are sure of his ability to play both drama and comedy. Therefore he should be examined carefully throughout the show. We believe in you Mr. Gambino as you are a rapper like Paper Boi!..

We, in our community / where I come from, do not accept any means to bring someone to the fore based on their ethnicity or race... But there is a reality here in this show...

The slave trading starts in 15th century onward until 19th century, and the so-called "negro" people (pardon my French) are made to feel like a living creature that's of the lesser human category.

So, later on after Darwin's theory of evolution, the enslaved "black" people are made to feel like a chain between the apes and the men...

And the democratic human rights movements for the black lives under the leadership of Martin Luther King and Malcolm X and likes of them, made a huge change in black people's mind towards themselves to the point that they started to live more like "normal people" and they are forced to embrace the very things that separate them from "white people."

Along the way they started to be successful at things and this made them feel more confident and alive... Things like music...

This here is going to talk of a success story about a group of black people who will rise in the music business behind their star "Paper Boi". And the first episode promises us many things.

I give this first one a "8,7." Yep!..

P.S.: The way they blue-pencil the violence-related scenes is really great!.. We should not show every abnormal thing that happens!.. Bravo!

Upon this we say: You were always alienated, yeah, dear "black people." But you will achieve great things for sure!.. You have got to keep your boat damaged!..

In the week the opening episode of Atlanta debuted in the UK on the BBC, Childish Gambino AKA Donald Glover caused waves with his video for 'This is America.' I am sure that the BBC publicity department were chuffed.

The episode opens with a confrontation between some black men in a parking lot. Earnest 'Earn' Marks (Donald Glover) is trying to keep Alfred 'Paper Boi' Miles (Brian Tyree Henry) calm. Paper Boi is a bad boy who is on the verge of making it as a rapper. He is also Earn's cousin who aspires to be his manager. The argument is over a broken wing mirror and there is a gunshot.

We then loop back to the previous morning and see Earn has unusual relationships. He sleeps with Van (Zazie Beetz) who is the mother of his daughter, Lottie, yet she is also having a date with someone and asks him for rent money.

Earn might be a young dad but he is also a Princeton dropout. Her works at the airport trying to sign people up for credit cards. When he arrives at this parents home, they do not let him in as they are tired of him sponging off them for money.

Earn gets knocked back as he latches on to Paper Boi once he finds out that he could be a rap star.

Glover wants to portray the complexities of black life and the shallowness of fame in the inner city. It is labelled as a comedy but I did not find many laughs but I did find the parents interesting.

My overall rating of "Atlanta"'s Season 1: 3/10

Honestly if that episode wasn't so watchable I likely wouldn't have wasted my time with the series (and I would say that my time was mostly wasted), but credit where credit is due, "Atlanta" starts with all aces from the peculiar melodramatic relationship between Earn and Van through the highest concentration of legitimately funny jokes in any episode of the season to the charisma and chemistry of the cast.

However, some of the bad sides of the series are also quite present: from the gross-out humour bit about a large turd in the toilet through le random & le quircky humour to the pure cringiness of many scenes, and so on.

So, if I was to name some of the most talented people in present day, Donald Glover would definitely be on that list. His work as Childish Gambino is awesome, and he continues to impress with his comedic performances both in film and on television. I always liked the idea of him doing some kind of television series, but as a writer as well as an actor. He is a great writer when it comes to rap, so why shouldn't he be great when it comes to episodic television. "Atlanta" is a show that he has described as "'Twin Peaks' with rappers," and I never understood that description. It definitely sounded like something I wanted to see, but it also sounded like something that couldn't possibly be created. I will say, that while this show isn't anything near "Twin Peaks," the description is a perfect fit for what "Atlanta" actually is. This is a great premiere episode, and it is some of the funniest television that I have seen in a long time, with fresh humor and a cool twist on stereotypes and social commentary.

This episode was written by Donald Glover, and he is a comedic genius. Not only is he brilliant at delivering comedic lines, but he is great at writing them. There was not one line in this entire episode that felt out-of-place. It was very subtle, and so very natural. There was no forced jokes, nor were there any jokes that fell flat, because it was so chill and down-to-earth. Also the comedic talent that is involved with the show is great. The delivery was always on-point, and the performances were great. Glover once again proves why he is one of the best comedians on television, while Lakeith Stanfield stole the entire episode with his great lines and amazing delivery.

I loved the way Glover made the environment come to life through music and through a variety of great characters. This show is supposed to be set in the poor areas of Atlanta, and it becomes so visible that this is not a place that people would like to live. There is no money to get in this place, and Earn (Glover's character) constantly tries to find a place where he can make some money, because he simply ain't making them at his workplace.

That also goes into the great character development. The show is definitely focusing on Earn and his family, and they did great work with setting him up. He is a very likable character, but he never comes across as very popular in the area. That served his character great, because I got very invested in him and started to feel for him because of it. I constantly wanted to get in there and help him out. That is very much the same with the other characters, because Paper Boi and Darius are one of the greatest duos in a long time. I can't wait to see where their story is going on this show.

Is this actually "Twin Peaks" with rappers? Yeah, is kinda is. There is one specific scene where Earn is sitting on the bus and is approached by a weird dude who disappears very abruptly during a conversation. That is the essence of "Twin Peaks." The mysteries and the cooky characters, which I think the Atlanta setting calls for in a weird way. They have a very funny way of answering those calls, and I can't wait to see what they come up with for the rest of the season, which I can't wait to watch.
