Let's get down and dirty!
First of all, let's be clear: This is NOT "I Love Lucy". Submission is here to push the limits, and push the limits it does. This is the kind of show that is fun to watch now but I really wish was on the air when I was 13 so my friends and I could sneak a viewing while the parents slept.
It seems pretty clear that this show got a green light because of the success of 50 Shades of Grey. While the overlap is similar, it will be interesting to see how Submission shakes out over multiple episodes. With more breathing room than a single feature, we get to see multiple relationships build in more complex and interesting ways that we got to see in 50.
For anyone who says it's too campy - Nobody reads a romance novel for its trenchant insights into the human spirit's capacity for innovation. For anyone who's rolling their eyes at the amount of BDSM media coming down the pipeline these days, relax. We're just getting more media across the board, regardless of genre or themes. We can all have our cake AND eat it too!

Finally!
Finally, someone actually writes a sexually exciting night-time series! I have never been able to watch soft core porn - because the sex is essentially removed while all the fun of the inner human psyche is gone. But not this time! I only want to know, what do I need to do not to see this one get canceled?! Is there a place where I can give stars to this series that will make this one stay? What really is amazing about this series is that it shows, very honestly, that BDSM, poly, experimental, or vanilla, people are just people, and are subject to all the same issues - the need to be seen, to be understood, to be loved, and to deal with our own inner drama and insecurities. It actually shows that sex and sexuality is something to be explored and embraced, not shunned away. Men and women equally are sexual creatures, all on a journey. I just love how amazingly sexy this series is without giving up on human interaction and the gunk of the human drama. I don't know how it does it, but the balance is achieved. I can't wait until the finale! When is it coming back?!
Looking for a bit more kink in your soft core?
Looking for a bit more kink in your soft core? Well, here it is.
While there is regular softcore straight sex, the whole point of this series was to get into some BDSM content and ride the 50 Shades wave.
They have a couple of surprising relationship twists, but mainly a woman coming off the breakup of an unsatisfying relationship with a bad boyfriend moves in with a friend in a small town ... needing a job.
She finds a book called "Slave" in the house, and though she denies it to her friend and housemate, it turns her on in a big way.
THEN, she discovers the male author of the book lives in town and is in the social circle. Have some patience. It takes into episode four before those two "get together", but it's worth the wait.

Finally A Show About BDSM!!
Not sure why it's taken so long to get a show on the air that includes BDSM. I guess the popularity of Fifty Shades of Grey really proved that there is an audience for this topic. Submission is a decent show, it certainly keeps me coming back for more. I'm craving to see more of the Dominant/submissive dynamic and the show seems to be going in that direction. The first episode was slow, but the show gets increasingly better as the series goes on.
I like the fact that there's a solid story-line for this late night show. Too bad there's nothing out there on dominant women... I would find that infinitely more interesting.

Porn with a story... failed to be a tv series with steamy scenes
So... How is 'Submission' better than the Fifty Shades series? The series co-creator, Jacky St. James said that It (Fifty Shades of Grey) made it seem like it (BDSM) was for people that were messed up or dark and it's not at all. In my opinion, Elliott is more cunning and messed up than Grey. 'Submission' gives the impression that this kind of sexual practice is not for people with a dark past but for tricksters and womanizers. Additionally and more importantly, it nuances that hierarchical relationship in the bedroom is extended to the whole relationship. The dominant, Elliott, is violent, coercive and selfish in daily life as well, and in many cases this is not true. Main characters' acting is sub-par and even annoying. It's funny that regular or day-to-day scenes are worse than sex scenes.

- TriviaAshlynn Yennie wrote an article for the Daily Beast in July 2017 about starring in this series. In it, she revealed that she was hesitant about taking the role. Not because of the nudity, which she had no issue with, but because she didn't know if she could play a submissive and represent the BDSM culture correctly since she knew nothing about it. But she accepted it because she loves being challenged and stretching outside her comfort zone.
