Not good!
This isn't a comedy or a horror movie. It's a teen drama. I get what they were trying to do. This is supposed to be a metaphor for life but it doesn't really work. We get it, life is random and sad things happen and we don't know why but that's not why you watch a movie in which teens spontaneously explode. Why them? Why is it happening? Why did it suddenly stop? There's no conclusion to this movie other then the metaphor. It doesn't work and it makes no sense. Life is random and it sucks but oh, it's so great to be alive? Kind of a dumb conclusion if you ask me but whatever.
The cast is ok, they are definitely trying but unfortunately it's not funny, it's not scary and to be honest I was bored for the majority of the movie. Can't recommend it. Sorry.
Btw, Longford should stop playing the teen. She's 26 y/o and she is talented enough to take more serious roles.

Some depth to this, very good watch.
How would you feel, if one day there was a chance you could just spontaneously pop, that's how life is for Mara and her fellow students.
I really did enjoy it, talk about a crazy combination of genres, it's shocking, funny, romantic, goofy, but there's also a bit of depth to it, I really liked how it concluded, it delivered some knockout emotional blows.
A definite 80's high school vibe feel about it, it's well presented, nicely made, and well acted.
Ambiguity can sometimes be irritating in films, it wasn't here, the point of the film was the effect on Mara, not the actual spontaneous popping off.
How good was as Katherine Langford as Mara, I thought she was excellent as the lead, I loved how natural she was, and just how the character behaved.
Enjoyed it, 8/10.

'We're all going to die'...
Make today the first day of the rest of your life, live every day as if it's your last, seize the day, seize the moment - but does it really matter or make any difference and can you really do anything about it. That all depends on your nihilistic tendencies which, after watching this, may have become increasingly acute.

Spontaneous non-explosive watch
Imagine if your best friend just literally exploded in front of your face. Actually. Don't. It's kinda awful.
That's the main gist of this story. From some day on, students in a certain high school class start exploding, so they just vanish, i.e. Become nothingness. Our characters have to deal with the horrors and unpredictability of this and inevitably make a few decisions that they otherwise would have not.
These explosions are supposed to be seen metaphorically. Life is hard, everything can happen at any time. Life can end at any time, s*** happens. So the really, you have to start living and enjoying your life. Do dare to take some chances that you might have been too afraid to. Ask out the girl you have a crush on, go to this event that you're still unsure of, finally start learning this thing that you're procrastinating on. Life is short and life is unpredictable. Begin before it's too late.
While the metaphor is good (albeit cliche), I was somehow pretty bored by this movie. It somehow took me about two weeks to finish. Really, it was just going nowhere, we all knew that the lover was eventually going to explode and we all knew that these lead to some sort of desperation. They basically didn't try to make any explanations about the explosions and many actions seem so unrealistic. Would parents really allow their children to still go to school after this? Would Dylan's mom really talk like that? Etc etc. It just didn't feel right.

I'm still shook.
I was not expecting this movie to have such metaphorical depth of story, I was blindsided with emotion. The soundtrack makes it feel brilliantly real and resonating.
I watched this movie on April 13th of 2021, a day on which I couldn't muster myself out of bed, my energy and depression being mentally crippling. I saw symbolism to the stigmatic topic of suicide, and I was blown away by the courage of the creators behind this movie to hint towards that epidemic at all. Beautifully executed in my opinion. I watched it again with my 15 year old son, and he was well overcome with emotion as well. Thank you, for sharing this creation. I'm grateful. It made me feel... Alive.
