Unfortunately, ever since "Ghost Hunters" debuted, we've had a swarm of ghost shows. Suddenly, everyone is doing a ghost show, and nearly everyone is batting a .1000 when it come to getting "evidence" whether it be visual, audio, or both.
Most of these shows are contrived, using trickery to dupe the viewer into believing that they've captured some kind of evidence. Some of the worst are Zak Bagans who ham it up so much as an actor, that you end up laughing half the time. "Oh, look! Over there! Did you see that?" Very easy to point to an empty corridor/room and "claim" that you've seen something without evidence to back it up. Amy Allan is nearly as bad with her obvious Christian religious dogma backing up her claims that she knows how to solve the problem. "The property has to be blessed three times within the next month!" she'll claim. Ugh! You'd be hard-pressed to find script writers who are as bad as these people; those who clearly failed in the industry!
This show feels a little more legitimate then most of its counterparts. Of course, nearly every one of these shows utilize fake imagery/audio to make the viewer believe that they've "captured" something. Most actualy paranormal investigators would be hard-pressed to capture any evidence, even during a 48-hour period.
Does that mean that these places aren't haunted? No. Many of the places visited are reputed to be haunted sites. The thing to remember is that these shows are on the air to provide entertainment. They are not documentary series. You'll even notice that nearly everyone involved is an "actor/actress" or even a "writer," which should tell you a lot!
Still, Amy and Adam make a good duo. Neither one hams things up, and often, the evidence they capture is limited.
The only downside to the series is Chip Coffy, a man who's already been exposed as a charlatan. Supposedly, he's at his home--always there when they call too!--and he "reads" an area via satellite. Supposedly, he knows nothing about the site being visited. Yeah, right! And he always picks up something. The man's credited with 150 stage performances. Remember, he's an actor!
Again, there isn't much "help" provided outside of simply confirming that a place is haunted. Outside of silly religious dogmatic rituals, people are still relatively clueless about how to help those people trapped to move on. This is something that anyone can do! You don't necessarily need a "priest" or religious person. It's about changning the vibration of the area. Any true "psychic" would know this.
Most of these so-called paranormal "experts" know as much about spirits as the local newpaper writer knows about writing out horoscopes or the crystal ball lady at the local fair knows about telling you your fortunes, or a mechanic knows about open heart surgery.
The show is entertaining without too much melodrama or over-the-top performances, which is why it's one of the better ghost shows out there. Still, it's a show!
