    One big ego stroke

I usually enjoy the type of challenges which push the body to its absolute limits, i am also a fan of other fitness related documentaries such as "The fittest on earth" series and controversial ones like "Icarus" and "The Armstrong Lie". But for some reason i found it very difficult to like this guy after the first 10 minutes or so. Its clear that he takes himself very seriously but it is also clear that he is his own biggest fan. Everything and everyone in the movie feels secondary to this mans personal crusade of "look how tough i am". The charity aspect of the movie also feels secondary and almost thrown together at the last minute to try and give the challenge more meaning instead of being a reason for starting the challenge in the first place. Its still an amazing achievement to accomplish and he should be commended for raising money for charity but at the end it just felt like it was all about him.

    Inspirational!

This guy and his family faced an unbelievable challenge, doing something that had never been done before, while receiving extreme criticism from some quarters over minor technicalities. There will always be nay sayers whenever someone chooses to do something extraordinary, but to continue in the face of such negativity, through sheer will is a credit to the people involved and a true reflection of what is possible with belief. Whatever your stance, you can't take away what an amazing achievement this was. Truly inspirational. I take my hat off to James and his crew. Good on you guys!

Could have dragged on a bit longer

It was a good story but could have easily been a mini series. You didn't get an opportunity to connect with the James Lawrence, or really feel his struggles that he had to overcome. Still was a good glimpse at it and sent me in the right direction to check out his book. Overall it was pretty good, but you just knew we was going to make it in the end. Can't believe how little they raised. I read a comment saying it was the hardest race in the world that nobody cared about. Kind of sums up why this is a hidden gem.

Not sure how I feel about this guy...

50 Ironmans, in 50 US States, in 50 days. Raising money for childhood obesity. Great challenge, great cause, but woefully ill prepared. I kinda feel sorry for him, his heart was in the right place, but there's a lot of this that doesn't work for me. Ultimately I don't think he had enough respect for what he was doing, perhaps too much of an ego trip. Fair play to sticking with it though, despite the perceived short comings. As for it as a documentary, a bit overly schmaltzy and self-aggrandising.

An amazing feat that feels less dramatic the more you watch

A well made documentary about a man who decides to run 50 Iron Man events in 50 states in 50 days for charity. A truly Herculean task!

I was excited to see all the other competitors and share their journeys and give some publicity to their charities and... Well no you won't! Obviously time is an issue so most of the races he runs at night, on his own.

Oh, well at least you will see the scenery of all the different states from Palm trees to snow covered mountains to swamps to... No you won't! The sections of the races that aren't at night time will be held on running tracks, streets or in swimming pools. Unless it rains then they will be held in a gymnasium.

Well it will be amazing to see how far a human being can be pushed, to see the limits of endurance the human body can take without performance enhancing... Let me stop you there.

It was great that the the guy undertook this but the task was just too difficult to even be attempted without widening the parameters of the goal so wide to make it unrecognisable.

Despite the impossible physical and mental challenges he faces so many concessions are made to the initial event that it loses a lot of its meaning.

The real hero of the piece is his wife who travels across the country performing administrative miracles whilst looking after three children.
