It's really frustrating watching these artist do great work and the judges don't pick them. Weird as it seems I will continue watching. I appreciate the artist but I will skip over the final judging as the judges are no longer worthy of being heard. So enjoy the artist!!
I loved watching skin wars so I thought why not give this show a try. I watched the first episode and I think I'll pass. When watching this show you are shown beauty in all of the artwork.....however some is less beautiful than others.....and it's obvious. I don't know if they have a weak spot for sad backgrounds but it is very frustrating to sit down and spend 30-40 minutes of your life to get to the end of the episode where they then choose the ugly low detail design to win. I liked to watch these shows to see people put up their best efforts. I'm insulted to watch these people who give 110% to lose to the people who gave 70%. In the end if you decide to watch this show you're setting yourself up for heart break.
The only reason I kept watching this as long as I did was because of the interesting challenges and beautiful art. However, the judging absolutely ruins the show for me. At the beginning of every episode, if someone mentions some vague sob story about their life I instantly know they are going to win. And I'm right every single time. Every once in a while it just so happens that they actually deserve to win, but more often than not it seems like the winner was predetermined by their sad backstory. It's completely obvious when watching who deserves to win and who's overall concept, craft, and execution is better, but it seems to me like the "judges" have no actual say or real opinion in who gets to move on. Sometimes you can actually see the frustration in the mentors faces when their artist clearly deserved to win but instead lost to something significantly and obviously inferior. Overall this show is completely frustrating to watch as amazing artists repeatedly lose to something that is half-assed or makes no visual sense and I'm extremely disappointed in Skin Wars: Fresh Paint, as I enjoyed the original Skin Wars and was looking forward to this new spinoff.
This season is a big let down. The worst judges yet. They tell the contestants what they want. The contestants doing exactly what they asked for are the ones to lose. These judges are BLIND to art. How can judges be so clueless to what they claim to be great at? Apparently this season was based on low expectations. The greatest artist were NOT noticed as they should have been.
