A asset to the card community

This movie was great in my opinion. Being a avid watcher of documentaries, this movie was able to find a great balance of information on a niche subject all day while following a story with heart. As a card collector I found out things about the hobby I did jot know. All the while they were able to pivot and bring in the story of family journeys through the hobby. I actually wished the film was longer to get more on both ends.

    Card Collecting Catharsis

A genuine documentary about fandom--of fathers and of sports cards--and the sometimes harsh reality of our personal icons. It's a bit rough around the edges--perhaps by design--but imperfection is part and parcel of the whole. The movie morphs from an investigation of the baseball card boom and demise, into the tandem disillusionment of the card industry and a lost father. It's partly about an industry that profited from the adoration and hard-earned money of kids, then knowingly betrayed them for a buck. It's partly about a father-son relationship of adoration that was discarded. The movie, perhaps to its audience, and perhaps the filmmakers, is an investment that only pays off for those who are looking for value in deeper understanding. If you only bought baseball cards as a monetary investment, you may not get it. If you're only watching for the big, bold, complete resolution, you may not be satisfied. But there's catharsis and reconciliation and acceptance of truth here that might fill a void you didn't know you had. Well worth watching for me.

A nice story weaved into a documentary

This is not the movie to tell you your cards from the 80s and 90s are worthless due to overproduction...you knew that! It is one of the players involved in the industry looking for some whys and also the whys on what happened to him personally! Thought it was well done and interesting to watch. I loved that era of cards and the great shows that were held everywhere!

I enjoyed it, but it's not really about baseball cards

The premise was that Stu wanted to know why all his late 80's and 90's baseball cards weren't worth anything. However, this can be answered in about 2 seconds, over production. You don't need a documentary to figure that out. The real story is Stu getting closure with his father, whether he likes it or not. You can clearly see how what happened to his family has shaped who Stu is today. His sister and mother seemed more well balanced, but Stu has been deeply affected.

The good times Stu had with his dad collecting sports cards really hit home with me as I did that with my dad as well. Lots of good memories brought up there. I was tired and turned this on and had only intended to watch a few minutes to see what it was about. I watched the whole thing right then.

    Hard to watch

This documentary was supposed to be about the rise and fall of baseball cards in the 80s &90s , but we get a weak story , weak acting, and very weak production I can only give 2 stars because it is obvious that all of the back story of the "father son " rift was a total lie The story is all over the place There is characters that they don't introduce, and you can tell a lot of this is rehearsed
