I was pleasantly surprised by this. I had no idea what to expect. The storyline is really good as well as the acting. The music was perfect for the movie and gave it a really sexy vibe.
I'd say give this about 30 minutes. It is slow burning at first, then unfolds into something very unique and hauntingly beautiful.
Kevin Chicken's claustrophobic, stylishly mounted Brit-shocker proved to be a pleasingly perverse psychodrama about a terminally twisted Tattooist's altogether sadistic fantasy that got WAY out of his tremulous hands! A fetishistic, fabulously transgressive, skin-prickingly sinister terror flick that I'm quite sure industrial music legend Genesis P. Orridge would have adored! Stunning Polish actress Natalia Kostrzewa is wholly remarkable as Katia, having to endure the most hideous travails as the unfortunate muse to the tyrannical, dangerously obsessive tattoo artist Bob (Richard Brake). This colourful creepshow might give some the needle, but it got right under my skin!
I saw this film as many as others at fightfest, it was the most beautiful and captivating film of the festival, not hands down the best but I think I might have enjoyed it the most. The actors were all fantastic and the film had a truly unique aesthetic. But there is no debate that Richard brake as with most films steals the show. I loved him and I loved the film. For a less complex 'the skin I live in' start right here. The artistic merit is no less deserved than almodovar, Kevin chicken should be very proud
One hour and forty two minutes transformed into a lifetime. If you want time to stand still watch this movie
Well, I liked it.
This film is a very much in the moment sort of film. I say that because there is not a lot of depth to it. Very few characters with very little when it comes to their backstories. It is meant to be watched at face value.
It took about 15-20 minutes to get going but once it did, you are sucked into trying to figure out what is going on and the reasons behind it all. It never slaps you with any real answers but even though I would normally be irritated by it, I wasn't with this film. I just liked what I saw but I do wish there would've been more at the very, very end.
This isn't going to scare you. It's not that type of horror but it is a mild version of what I would consider to be psychological horror. If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, check it out. It's not my normal cup of tea but I did end up liking it.
