Offers a Fresh & Original Take on the Superpowers Theme
This slowly unfolding dystopian film offers a fresh and original take on the superpowers theme. But you'll need patience, as this is more of a quiet and cerebral film than the usual action laced type movie in this genre.
Fine performances here from Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Lorraine Toussaint as two women who have been gifted with the supernatural abilities, as part of a generational line of women in their family. But in a world which has had no rainfall for 8 years and is dying out, and where Federal Agents fear what these abilities can do, there may be no safe place for them.
Although I thought some of the elements here were nonsensical, once it all started coming together I found it quite engaging and interesting, and, as mentioned, offered a different slant on this type of movie.

A Decent Movie Yet I Dozed Off Watching It
Not a bad movie, this has a good cast and I love anything about people with super abilities, But this one really is a slow burner that fails to take off..i would say there are but a few moments in the whole movie and the very end is good but could have been Great...The director never gives it its wings...Pity.. great actresses here who arent given enough to work with..I actually dozed off during it, yeah, its That slow...If you are looking for Incredible displays of otherworldly power you will be dissapointed...If ur looking for a brisk pace that keeps you on the edge of ur seat, this is Not it..
You would better enjoy an episode of Heroes.... A decent movie though that could have been a Great one!
Powers to be
Recent years have shown a surge in superhero movies. Yet while most of them are "popcorn movies", there are also a few that try to change the formula a bit and go into different genres alltogether. Like this one, which may be described more like a drama than a movie that is there to just plain entertain you. Now I do feel that other superhero movies tackle social issues too - their main goal is to entertain or please fanboys though.
Acting is rock solid in this and the movie really has some interesting twists and turns throughout. The special effects also work really well in it. They are not that many, but when they appear on screen ... no pun intended, but let's say you won't be dissapointed. The story may or may not work for you, but is quite stellar - if as slow as it gets, which again may be something you either appreciate or are annoyed by.

Could have been a little faster.
This would have been a great 50 minute episode of The Twilight Zone, but as many of the reviews here say, it drags in middle. Good acting, nice FX, but not enough of a story to carry the running time.
i dug it
