The film was originally supposed to be a loose adaptation from the popular "creepypasta" Candle Cove. The idea was rejected after TV series Channel Zero was announced.

Alternate versions
The unrated version of the film shows the main character Emma posing in adult diapers after incident in the park. While the version widely available shows Emma simply caring a pack of adult diapers in her apartment, the unrated version of the scene includes her opening the package and looking herself on the mirror while wearing one. Emma is then shown trying a several pants over the diaper as an attempt to hide it. The scene has a melancholy tone. The scene was cut from the original YouTube release due to YouTube's restrictions. The version also contains longer smoking scene at the main character's balcony.
