Summary
Reviewers say 'The Haunting of Hill House' is lauded for its emotional depth, compelling performances, and innovative fusion of horror and family drama. It explores themes of grief, guilt, and trauma, using supernatural elements as metaphors. However, some find the pacing slow and overly dramatic, and the finale criticized for being sentimental rather than horrifying. Acting opinions vary, and deviations from the original novel spark debate.

The most perfect horror show I've ever watched
I haven't written a review before but I thought that this show deserved it. I went into The Haunting of Hill House blindly (as one should) and wow did it blow my mind. This show is filled with effective scares and fast paced moments, but also slow, drawn out scenes that will leave you with goosebumps. I found it hard not to just binge the entire thing in one sitting! Hill House brought out fears from my childhood that I forgot I had. Both the casting and the acting were astounding and I don't think they could've been any better. Especially the child actors were incredibly believable. There were a few moments that I believe will stick with me forever. I had to take a few breaks simply to process! Overall I can confidently say that The Haunting of Hill House is the most well done and effective horror show that I've ever seen. I most definitely will be watching all of Flanagan's other works after this masterpiece!
Masterpiece of a show
From beginning to end, this show does not get any less interesting. The chapter book format this show is in really does the show justice. It develops the characters and gives the watcher time to understand and care to see what happens to the characters. Every character has a good side and a bad side, they all have very realistic and relatable struggles.
If you are looking for a simple, jumpscare esc show, this is not for you. Not saying this show isn't scary, it definitely is its just not scary in a way you would expect. It psychology scary, every single thing people in this show go through is terrible and you really feel for them, wether they're right or wrong in the situation, you understand where their coming from.

We need more horror like this!
The Haunting of Hill House is HANDS DOWN the best horror series I've ever seen. It's a meditation on death, grief and trauma. It is equal parts scary and engaging. The best character development I've seen in a long time and a huge leap forward for horror. We need more horror like this. It has disturbed me and moved me. It's portrayal of the supernatural as more of a human experience and less of a "poltergeist" type is revolutionary. It, to me, makes more sense to believe in ghosts than I ever thought was possible
More Poppy!!
I DESPERATELY want a story about Hill House's past to see Poppy's entire story
