Treehouse of Horror XXVIII

The intro starts with the citizens of Springfield being like candy, the first segment is a reference to The Exorcist after Maggie gets possesed by a statue, the second segment Coralisa which is a common reference to Coraline after Lisa goes to another dimension of his alternate family and the final segment called Mmm Homer after he gets his finger cutted he becomes a cannibal and makes a restaurant of himself.

Opening - A good parody to ''The Sweets Hereafter'' with some solid use of CGI. I like that they made Bart the Butterfinger candy in reference to his old commercial. I liked most of the jokes like Lisa's way of thinking why people don't want to eat apples on Halloween, Homer pus-hind Grampa to be taken by Shauna, and ''shutting up'' the chocolate rabbit by eating his mouth.

Exor-Sis - My favorite segment. I've always liked to see an evil baby parody being done on Maggie, this segment didn't disappoint me. I loved a lot of the jokes like Pazuzu's name stickies over Matt Groenings name, Maggie's toys freaking UT of the statue, Maggie impaling Helen's head from behind, her general use of powers where she moves objects around which prevented Homer from drinking liquid. Credits to William Friendkin who voiced the priest. Nice way to end the segment with Pazuzu being afraid to be inside Bart.

Cotalisa - Another good parody to Caline which can get rather unsettling at times. While being lighter on jokes I like how they did the CGI with the alternate universe family. What I probably liked most is Snowballs talking role which brought some good jokes with it. The plot had potential to be great but at the end it got kinda rushed with Homer killing half of the other family and bringing over the survivors to his universe as new family members. I expected AU Marge to do something freaking in her spider form, turns out she only gets better at doing house work.

Mmm... Homer - A segment where Homer's gluttony actually takes a hold over himself... now that's something the show had to have. This also turned out to be the most disturbing segment to me as self-inflicted body horror is what frightens me the most. I was actually eating myself while watching and I had to pause several times just because I was starting to feel unwell. After re-watching it got a lot better and there are some good jokes to it. Apparently Ned has a wife in this segment who was absent? It had a good ending with Homer's meat being distributed to his own new restaurant and fast food chain.

The segments had some good pacing with little to no pointless filler. The only gag I hated was Maggie vomiting in ''Cotalisa'' which is both pointless and dragged on to much. It felt very FG-esquire which doesn't belong in this show. I do like how they continued the story from the first segment to the second at the beginning, this could've been a new gimmick where all 3 segments are somewhat connected to each other where they each happen on a different day. A lot of great use of CGI has been used which seems unusual for a THoH to use it so much. And unlike a lot of other THoH, this one was actually scary and unsettling.

The first segment demonstrates how poor the series and its parodic references have become. In the episodes we all remember, they used the same tense music that was used in movies, or even surpassed it. Now it's subpar because the current writers and/or directors in charge have no idea how things were done in the program in the past. The characters are empty, their emotions are always flat, they don't react to events as you would expect. They always have the same silly smile on their faces, whether it's Homer dying, Maggie being possessed by the devil, or Grandpa saying something silly. And that's it, there are no human reactions at any moment. Everything is done in a hurry, without the formula from the golden age that made you feel the episodes.

So you'll remember episodes like "Life On The Fast Lane" and how it ended, other episodes that moved the audience. And of course, seeing that all of that in the end only served as a basis to create empty dispose of material like this is not very pleasant to watch.

The second segment is the only one that passes. I have no issues with it except for the fact that the characters are devoid of the personality dimensions they had in the golden age of the show. Now they're just stereotypes, nothing more. But that's the case with all the modern ones, right?

The third segment is the worst, just watch it and you'll understand why. You can't create fiction that discomforts people in that way because it's torture, not fiction.

Treehouse of Horror XXVIII is a terrific Simpsons episode with three very well developed segments and a plethora of brilliant moments. I can gladly say there is no bad segment this time around, the past few years there tends to be at least one bland one in the three, but I thoroughly enjoyed all of these. The Coraline parody was particularly ambitious, I loved the mesh of the two animation styles, it was a really joy to watch.

The weakest of the three was definitely Maggie getting possessed, while I did still have fun, it offered nothing new or original in terms of Exorcist parodies.

I also loved the third story, probably one of the weirdest THOH segments the show has ever done, as Homer takes up a new diet of eating himself. It is certainly not for the faint hearted, but I really admire how far hey went this season.

A very bold Treehouse. Fun, enjoyable, weird, and at times quite disgusting, Treehouse of Horror XXVIII was great and took some real risks.

Maggie gets possessed, Lisa discovers a portal to a new world, and Homer begins a strange new diet.

This is definitely not the best Treehouse Of Horrors by far. I would actually put it on the lower end, but they're all so good. Here are the reviews for each part.

The Exor-Sis: This is the best one of the three and is funny and not to weird while still being wacky. 9/10

Carolina.. or IDK (The Caroline Parody): This one was just weird and stupid. 4/10

The Cannibal Homer One: This one was so gross and weird. It was AMAZING. Not as good as the Exor-Sis but still great. 7/10
