Hmmm really baffled by these Reviews???
I went in with the lowest possible expectations for this movie after seeing the reviews ripping this movie apart. Afterwards I just couldn't understand as to why it was rated so badly??
It was actually a pretty decent movie and a storyline. Yes it wasn't no masterpiece but still pretty good. Only scene which was bad was the bull fighting but I really loved watching Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri I'm the same frame after such a long time. Alia Bhatt did pretty decent and Varun Dhawan and Aditya Roy Kapoor was really good. Loved Arjit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal voices. Storytelling was done really well and there were some really emotional scenes.
I don't know if Indian audiences have lost their minds or was it because there was a Muslim angle in this movie and politics kicked in around elections? I just don't know but to me this movie was worth my money!!!

Decent!
This movie is not that bad as other reviewers make it seem. Sure it has some faults from having unnecessary long scenes and background music. The movie could have been cut short by 20 minutes. Also, the story was cliche and a bit weak. It's unmatchable to Sanjay Leela Bhansali's work so don't go in with such expectations. What kept me hooked was everyone's acting as well as the sets, costumes, and cinematography. The songs were good too. The climax was surprising with a lot of emotions. Alia was superb and Varun did a pretty damn good job. Aditya and Sonakshi stood out too. I appreciated Sanjay Dutt for his efforts as well. But most importantly, Madhuri was just breathtaking! People are not giving credit to where it's due and are bashing the entire movie. It's not that bad!
Performances are Top Notch
Bahaar Begum is the life of Kalank, had her back story been more meated out, the emotional quotient of the movie would have been on another level. Madhuri Dixit, you are a treasure to this Industry. Superb Musical score!
DID I WATCH THE SAME THING???
THE FILM WAS AMAZING, BIG BUDGET, ASTHETICALLY PLEASING, AMAZING ACTING, AMAZING SONGS AND PERFORMANCES, AND GOOD STORYLINE WITH TWISTS AND TURNS TO KEEP YOU ENETERTAINED?? WHAT IS WITH ALL THE NEGATIVITY THESE DAYS JEEEEEZHUS
Part of an established genre
A lady with terminal cancer (Sonakshi Sinha) tries to fix a second marriage for her husband before she dies. They live in a small town near Lahore and she finds the girl she wants in a Hindu village in India. But the girl (Alia Bhatt) won't agree to wait till the first wife dies and says she'll enter the house only as the second wife. But she soon finds herself lonely and unloved as her new husband (Aditya Roy Kapur) loves his first wife only and says so. He's obviously into mature women and not wispy young girls. And the wispy young girl is not into serious, intellectual men. Left to herself, she falls for a young blacksmith (Varun Dhavan). It is soon revealed that the two men share the same father (Sanjay Dutt). One is his illegitimate son by a brothel keeper (Madhuri Dixit). The other is the highly educated editor of the local newspaper. After all this is established, the film drags slowly to a fairly predictable resolution. The sets are unrealistically opulent, with the brothel resembling a five star heritage resort and the rich man's house resembling the White House. Kalank is part of a now established genre in Bollywood, which includes films like Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Eklavya: The Royal Guard.
