What put me terribly off is the concocted diversity of issues that a couple face in Rakhee Sandilya's Ribbon, a sweet little film that turns sour right when you are enjoying it. But that's exactly the whole point of showcasing what a couple transforming into a nuclear family face in a metro city in India. From unabashed gender discrimination at work to familial tiffs to issues with the functioning of a household, Ribbon has it all, topped with a violent performance by Kalki Koechlin and an equally competing one by Sumeet Vyas. Parenthood hits them like a typhoon in the US and all that follows is what I like to call new-age problems that do not have solutions. Along with fitting music and numbing dialogues by Raghav Dutt, director Sandilya takes her viewers on a journey that is relatable and nonchalant, eventually taking them to the end of a cliff and threatening that she will push. Ribbon is heartbreaking but it does not fool its audience. It has its flaws - with the major one being convolution - but then indie films have stories to tell. With it with your partner and you will take away a thing or two. TN.
Loved the performances by the lead pair , kalki has always been one of my favorites her natural acting is what I love , story was good as well .
Kalki - Though she is already one of my favourites, but I used to think that she can only do justice with a character that is outgoing, modern, free-spirited, carefree, super energetic, youthful and somewhat irresponsible but this movie, to a happy surprise, broke that myth in my head. Her character in this movie is an ambitious woman but at the same time is a loving mother who cares a lot about her family and is trying hard to balance the responsibilities of a mother, a wife, a daughter and her career. Kalki perfectly fitted in the character.
Sumeet - I've always seen him in supporting roles and all I could see was that, he is not a bad actor but in this movie he had one of the two lead roles and he was brilliant in his performance! After this movie, he is a new name added in my list of good actors.

The film delves into a relevant subject on an urban issue: the cost of parenting in a hectic urban milieu with both the parents working. Perhaps the story is of a majority of people around you with the dilemma of coping between the balance of career and family.
The subject is an eye-opener and the lead performances are a treat. However, the film could have been much better, had there been more layers to the characters and more touching sequences. The film ends just abruptly without a proper resolution or a reconciliation, which makes it an incomplete work. Still, it's a welcome entry in the category of an offbeat movie.
Rating: 1.5 stars out of 4.

Watch #Ribbon if u r deciding on getting hitched. Definitely watch #Ribbon if u plan to have a baby. Koechlin is terrific as the career-conscious mother. She is very believable. Her office scenes r very natural n relatable. Vyas lends very good support as her caring husband. Director Sandilya has narrated a sensitive n sensible story. Looks like she has taken her job very seriously. Full marks to her. The tough n ruthless corporate world has been very well depicted. Rating 4/5.
